Cracked the stock on my browning citori yesterday. Not cracked in half but the crack was a good 3/4 up the grip. Took it to a well known gunsmith here in San Antonio for repair. He wanted to charge me $150 to put some epoxy in there and gave it a 50/50 chance of it working(in his defense he was just covering his butt, and i didn't expect a guarentee on that) and the turn around time was 3 weeks.

he suggested sending the stock back to browning for a repalcement, though that would cost about $500.

Took it to Tip Burns at canyon lake sporting arms, who has done a fair amount of work for me in the past, but is 60 miles from my house.

He took it in, called me today to come pick it up. Can't tell the stock was repaired, and only charged me $40.

I took my 06' in there and he is gonna bed the action and barrel, and do a trigger job on it.

if anyone in the san antonio/austin area needs a great gunsmith he is the man to see!

Nagel's?

I try and stay away from there except for ammo. Drury's is better I think.

Just got back from Canyon Lake Sporting Arms and those guys are great. Takes their time to visit and find out about your gun. Stayed an hour. Great guy to do business with.

Tip Burns is one of the top gunsmiths in Texas and beyond. These days he is mostly building custom rifles and taking in business from existing customers. He builds a lot of sniper and tactical rifles for Police Departments. He has built rifles for me and done gunsmithing on pistols and rifles for me for several years now. He is the real deal.

Thing that impresses me most about him is he takes the time to visit with you and find out what your wanting to accomplish, not just "drop it off and be on your way". he also explains things in a "real world way" and dosent' use a bunch of technical jargon that leaves you scratching your head.

I'll never take rifle anywhere else but him, as long as he's in business

I agree....Called about a particular Remington one time and the jerk on the phone was like.."Remington ??? We dont even carry that brand because we cant even warrantee them" !!!"Anyway, not sure what he meant, but the attitude alone was not enough for me to never spend a dime in that store.

BTW,thanks for the great info on Canyon Lake sporting arms. They probably arent too far from me.
