W/ a metal floor-plate or without?

If it's without, I'm bettin it's a "shadow".

They also made a Black Shadow that had a floorplate, the Flying W stocked guns were sold primarily at Walmart in the day, the others at the regular retailers.

Notice the floorplate:

IIRC the "Flying W" version was a package gun, came with a Winchester branded Simmons scope for about $450/$475 range in the late 90's, I bought 5 of floorplate version from Bass Pro shops in 30-06 for $288 ea, this was during the settlement of the Marlin Lawsuit over the MR-7, it would have been 98-99yr. I put Boyd's JRS Classic laminated pepper stocks on them and gave them to my FIL, BIL, cousins and my dad for Christmas that yr.

The one in that clipping is actually the floor-plated one if ya look close. Had one of the "flying w" package guns in 7mag as my first rifle when I was 13 or so. Someone stole it in a home robbery when I was 18. From what I remember it was a great lil gun once I got that simmons off and put a nikon on it.

best of luck to ya with it. with a stock upgrade/bottom metal and a lil bedding that thing would be a heck of a rifle.

The black shadow model can be made to shoot, my Brother in Laws and mine are true one holers at 100yds, put it in a Boyd's JRS Classic, bed the action, 2 " forward of the action and you will be surprised at what it will do. If it is a non-floorplate model, it can be converted for less than $50 with Winchester bottom metal from eBay.

This is exactally what I did to mine. It still wears the same plastic stock and shoots pretty darn good. I've killed serveral deer and a few hogs with it. I lost a big hog with it to though.
