If deer are feeding(weeds & such from growth this summer)in a food plot and you want to treat the plot with a weed killer before planting oats/whatever, would the deer continue to feed in the plot and would the herbacide be harmful. I went to the ranch Sat and pulled chips in the 2 cameras in the plot, I noticed there were small areas where the weeds were only a few inches tall but didn't think anything about it till I got home and looked at the chips. The reason the weeds in those small areas were knocked back was the deer have been feeding on them hard. One pic had 5 bucks feeding at the same time plus numerous other does and smaller bucks.

Good question. I would contact a Texas game biologist and ask them.

TPWD wildlife biologists are an elite group, they seldom talk to us regular people or at least I have not had any luck getting one to answer any questions.

It wont bother them. If you plow it up good at planting time you probably wont have much of a weed problem.

I spray really bad food plots that have bermuda grass, other grass or weeds that are really bad with roundup. I then wait 2 weeks to get a good kill and then till the plot. Never had a problem yet. I do this to save some moisture if I get an early rain in Sept. That is if you want to plant early. If not then just wait and plow them up right before you get ready to plant.

How did you get to talk with one to start with, I can't get the one over the area I hunt to answer my email.

I would guess there are good biologist that are in contact with the public and take care of business. On the other hand I am sure there are those who are just drawing a state check and try to stay obscure as possible.
No doubt they get asked a lot of the same questions over and over but if that is the case they should have a frequently asked Q&A for the area they work in.
Your managing a large sum of acreage DLALLDER I would think you could get there help. Perhaps you should email his supervisor.

This form of question in OP is kind of out of the normal management for TPWD biologists for the most part. Call your local farm chemical company and they can answer or get you an answer on farming much faster than the TPWD. If you need to talk to your guy or find out if your county still has one in that county call the regional office in your area and they will get you an in touch with someone to help you on most anything else related to TPWD and their managment programs.
