I have heard a lot of good things about this caliber. I am considering buying one, could you guys who have one or have had one, give me a run down on this caliber? I am interested in the effective range, recoil, things like that.

recoil with a 200gr bullet is 2.38 SECxLB where a 30-06 with a 200gr is 2.30 not much difference. I am certian someone will dissagree with me however most buulets need to be traveling at 2000 feet per second for proper exspansion, with that said, agian with a 200 grain bullet at 240 yards it hits that mark but it still has 1750ftlbs of energy. I think it is a awesome round.

I have owned two. A Remington Classic and a reworked '98 Mauser. The Rem. had a fair amount of recoil, especially with 250 grain and heavier bullets. The Mauser wasn't bad at all. Probably due to stock design and weight. The round is a good one. 200 grain for whitetails, 225 and up for bigger critters. It is a good 300 yard gun when properly loaded.

I have a springfield barreled to 35 W., 1 in 12 twist.24" barrel.Excellent to 300 yards. I shoot the nosler 225 bal. tip.It will shoot a 3"group at 300 yards.Crono. at2785 fps. Does not ruin any meat, it is my gun of preference . It kicks much more than a 06, but not bad while game shooting. Get one and hand load for it , you will be impressed.

I have never shot anything with the Whelen except for paper, so I cant comment on how well it preforms on critters.

Recoil is very manageable even for someone with boney shoulders like me.

Accuracy is very impressive out of my 700 CDL with factory Remington loads.

This round seems to be gaining a bit of a following here lately. Just a few years ago I could not find one anywhere untill Remington chambered for it in their CDL rifles. Now there seems to be quite a bit of talk about this round.

I have only shot TX whitetails with mine and it is DRT with
each one I shot. However, I like the 250gr Hornady SP not to
impressed with the 200gr and only used it on two deer which
tasted good. The recoil is manageable if you can handle a 12 ga shotgun the 35W is a piece of cake.

I just got one built on a 1912 springfield. Cant wait to shoot it. I used CHC's ruger with 26" barrel last year and it is an awsome round.
