What are yall opinions on Carbon Express? I was thinking of getting a Horton until this weeks ad from Cabelas.

I've never owned a crossbow nor am I a die hard bow hunter although I'm looking to get in that extra month of deer hunting. So far I've shot this bow at $299 up to $800 bows and can't really tell a HOLE lot of differance other than loudness. At 30 yards shooting 300fps does the bow loudness make that much of a differance? Opinions please!

Your right, you can't tell a whole lot of difference in shooting them. But you can tell well feels good vs what doesn't. Go with your gut. At 300FPS you will be fine. And yes all crossbows are louder than vertical. It is just how it is. You can take extra steps like dampeners and such but at the end of the day it is about taking the right shot at the right time and having a bow that makes you feel comfortable at that 30yrd shot.

I actually went with the Excalibur they have a $400 versions up to $900 and I went with what I felt comfortable with which was the Vortex. I also wanted recurve over cam.

Horton has some very good bows. I actually shot the vision about a month ago and was impressed with its overall balance.

I would check out Crossbow Nations forums. They are great on giving feedback and it is where I went to get advice when I was researching. It might also tell you something that they don't have a section dedicated to Carbon but they have it for many other of the top brands. wink

Thanks for your insight manchops! I haven't shot any of the Excalibur's yet but going to give it a try before I make my final decision.

I bought the same crossbow last season. It was sold under the Eastman Outdoors brand but it is the very same crossbow. I sighted it in and took it out and killed two nice big pigs (both pushing 250lbs or more) and a nice big doe. I was using the Swhacker mechanical heads and 20" carbon arrows. This crossbow worked great for me. No sense in spending a ton of money for one as far as I'm concerned.
It was my first year at crossbow hunting but I'm already primed and ready for this year.

Mike
