This is my new setup I have been working on lately. 120 yards from blind to feeder and the plot is about 140 yards by 70 yards and was planted a week and a half before the pics. I hope to get some rain in the next week or so to help kick it in gear. I do see a few sprouts here and there, but nothing major yet. I got to hunt it for the first time on Friday and saw a monster I had never seen before that would go maybe 140 walked behind the blind at about 35 yards. To early to burn my tag and I may regret that later. I am naming it sniper central.

North of Lake Lewisville. Hard to imagine something like that in this area. Great view from up there and it looks strait South.

Louie it was a long story on why I did not touch the trigger. I have been second guessing myself since that moment. I took my babysitters son who is going in the Army today and he has never shot a deer. This was his going away to serve our country gift from me. We had a doe just about 40 yards behind the blind a little to the west side and down the hill start blowing at us and I was trying to locate her so he could shut her up for good when I saw movement to the east side coming over the hill from east to west. I turned to see what was obviously the daddy of the deer David took on the place last year headed strait for that doe at a nice easy pace. I turned back and grabbed my gun and picked him up in the scope and had a easy shot and thought maybe the kid can get a shot and what a story of a lifetime this would be for him. So I pulled back and he could never get a clear shot out the back of the blind. He did see the buck a few times and could not believe how big his rack was. This was a true trophy and a mature deer. The 3 does walked past us and all the way down to the feeder and we watched for 10-15 minutes in hopes they would pull him on out in the open for a shot. Some duck hunters started shooting up a storm a few hundred yards away on a pond and the does starting getting nervous and I told him if he wanted a doe he should let it fly now. He threw up and looked thru the scope with no rest and pulled the trigger with the safety still on. I knew then we would have problems. I told him to slow down get a rest and take his time. So he took the safety off and did almost he same thing and missed. I knew then it was a good thing he did not get a shot and I should have taken the shot on that buck my self.

No doubt it was the same gene pool as Daves deer. Just a lot heavier and taller rack. Very nice to see he is still in the area. They do not get much pressure and you never know what you will see with the 5000 acre sanctuary next to the property. I really want the one I saw last year. He is my goal and I would have heard if someone tagged him. I almost felt a little buck fever myself over that one. Still not quite big enough to haunt my dreams like the one last year did. I can at least sleep at night.

Sweet setup!

We have enough youth. How about a fountain of "smart"?
