Just seeing if anyone else got a discount from their landowner this year due to the drought conditions. We only got 10% off, but heck, at least its something.

Why would anyone get a discount? Do people get discounts when you rent a boat and it has some scratches on it? Your landowner must be a nice fellow.

I'm impressed... If I were a landowner I would not give a discount. The landowners don't control the weather...

I haven't met the landowner yet, but from what I can tell about how he runs things, he seems like a real good guy. On 3500 ac. he only wanted 4 hunters total (doesn't believe in over-crowding), 1 "trophy" 1 "management" (definition of management to be determined by hunters) 3 doe @ $2250 each for this yr, $2500 the two years to follow (3 year deal).

Generous of the landowner for sure. I wouldn't give a discount for the weather. But you butt your rear end I'd take any discount I could on a lease price.

Paid 1,000 for 375 acres, only 3 hunters and one is handicapped and never goes. Only real issue is the donkeys and cows eat my corn and the deer arent't "thick" in that areaa. But hogs are everywhere.

I don't know that I'd name names on here. Someone is likely to contact them and offer more money. Jerks are everywhere.

BTW, this is the "Glass" family, who apparently owns many large/larger ranches in Glasscock, Howard, and Mitchell counties. If you get a chance to lease from them, they seem like a great family to lease from (so far).

If you are referring to Phillip Glass then YES he is probally the best landowner i have ever dealt with very nice and willing to help anyway they can.

Our lease went up this year, but in return the landowner got rid of all his cattle.

Sounds like you found a keeper. I guess he feels like he is selling you a service or "product" that is not up to par on what he is used to. That my friend is a mighty fine man and you probably won't find many like him.

I'd rather not hunt the ranch on a year like this, rather than give a discount. We dont get to charge more on years when its great. Its an average. Take the good with the bad. my 2 cents.

I agree everyone on here would be up in arms if the posting was "Great year lots of rain, grass everywhere, huge fawn crop and they are chargeing us %10 more!)

At least you have access to your lease. Here in Polk county we have been LOCKED OUT since July 1st. The leases on the East side of HWY 59 still have access though. We are SUPPOSED to start Deer Season Oct. 1st. LOL!

I don't think anyone on here expects a discount in a bad year, but if the land owner feels that HIS place is not gonna be that good this year then I think its pretty dang cool of him for the discount. As far as good years go ,then yes I have seen many leases go up when the quality of deer being killed go up.

I've never heard of ANY landowner discounting due to weather conditions, so I was shocked as well.

I have one small tract that I lease separate from the ranch and I received a note from the lessee of that tract explaining how he had consulted with a wildlife biologist and explained what "we" needed to do to maintain the quality of the deer during this period of stress. His hunting party intended to take only bucks this year and no does. In return for this sacrifice, we needed to revisit the lease fee because they would only be hunting bucks and hogs this year. :-) I don't think my answer was what he wanted to hear.

Good for you. I would never expect that!
