i just got a savage model 12 heavy bareal target gun. with 1 in 12 twist i have heard that 168 grains shoot well in this rifle is that true or is it some other grain, want a bullet that is accurate and will perform on deer and hog at long ranges,anyone have any experience with this one
NRA all the way god guns and guts made us free , i want all three

Should shoot anything up to 175's some 1:12's shoot 175's well some don't. A bullet that will perform well on deer and is accurate is the Nosler Accubonds or Sierra Gamekings.

That your rifles don't shoot as well as a Savage? His Remmy's will. He just has to put another $1500 into it to shoot the same.

First go buy a bunch of different ammo and rank each type by how it performs in your rifle and by what ranges the various types of bullets are expected to perform at.
Second you need to determine what "long range" is. It can be a personal thing. My personal definition is anything beyond MPBR of the cartridge/critter combo, though really any shot over a fifty yards is long for me because getting close is what makes hunting fun to me.
Third if you are planning on hunting past the MPBR of the CCC, then do yourself and your prey a favor and plan on plenty of range time beforehand.
