This may kinda overlap a similar post going on right now about shooting does but do ya'll think TPWD may make any last minute changes in bag limits for deer this year based on drought? What about next year?

I know its hard to say what the State may do about anything smile but was curious what some of you may have heard or know or suspect.

Regardless of the drought I've been thinking alot recently that they may want to consider revising (lowering) the limits on whitetail. You hear this alot from folks who are being hurt by liberal limits in some parts of the state but the continued fragmentation of land parcels, coupled with allowing people to continue killing 3, 4 or 5 deer could really put a hurtin' on things. I realize some places are already under tighter managment (MLD, LAMPS, etc) but I'm talking in general terms.

You cant limit what the rest of the state can shoot just because some jack leg that owns 5 acres shoots 10 deer a year off of it.

I highly doubt the state is going to change anything. Personaly I think the anter restrictions were just as big of an atempt to reduce harvest number as they were to restrict the age of harvest.

I do not foresee any changes for this season coming up either. They already would've implemented them had they intended to.

X3 - I totally disagree with the antler restrictions but I am more of a meat hunter than anything. On my lease we have our own restrictions. I think that the trophy mentallity as gotten to too many people. The state trying to manange the East Texas forests for tropies just does not make sense to me. I think they will keep an eye on the numbers and make a change if need be.

But it's so much easier to generate revenue by posting GW's at processing plants and writing tickets for deer not meeting AR requirements than it is to actually get out there and pursue poachers! Kinda like an LEO writing tickets instead of trying to catch felons.

As you can tell,I'm not a fan of AR's either. We have our own criteria on our place, and yes it's more restrictive than the state now mandates. I just don't see it being their business to MAKE people trophy hunt. And then make the bag limits MORE liberal when they implement the stupid laws!

I also don't see the need in TPWD setting out a bunch of confusing rules right before we head into deer season. Everything TPWD does, they have a way of making it more difficult than it ever needs to be. So they need to just leave things alone, and let the hunters and herd dictate the outcome of this year's deer season.

IMO,some areas need to be micromanaged.I know they don't have the $ or man power so its just easier to issue blanket regs that cover whole counties, but Erath is a 4 deer county when really it should be a 2 deer cty.If you want to shoot 4 or 5 deer go hunt the Edwards plateau, JMO.

Same in hopkins co. no way it should be a 4 deer co. Im sure most of you know how i feel about antler restrictions and how much damage the 4 deer bag limit has done. I have no respect for TPW anymore except for one who shall remain nameless. Writing and emails have not even gotten a responce. Im sorry to say they are just like our federal goverment and should be removed and some new blood brought in.
