Anybody hunt up there close to the Palo Duro canyon? I have hunted South of there near the Caprock. I am guessing about the same?

Hunted on 5,000 acre place that joined the park on the south and the Amarillo foundation to the east 10 years ago. the ranch had 6- 800 acres of wheat and crp on top surrounded by canyons. It was amazing how many mulies you see on the wheat, they would come out of the canyons at a dead trot. I counted 80- 100 every morning and afternoon. The largest we killed was 28" (heavy),saw lots of 20-22".The problem is the season opens to early, 3 weeks after its over the big boys show up for the rut. There are some huge deer ( horn and body ) in that area. Warden told us of a huge whietail killed in the canyon by the church camp.

I've hunted Palo Duro Canyon since 1980. In my opinion it's the prettiest place in Texas to hunt. Not only Mule Deer but Aoudad's, Whitetail's, and Hogs.

I took this mulie on the rim in a wheat field, just right outside of Amarillo. We could only hunt the wheat and saw a ton of mulies. They have counted over a 100 does at one time on the wheat in the past and are ticked they can't shoot them.
