Generally, shooting 3" magnum shells out of a 12 or 20 gauge produce more recoil than the .300WM.

Heavier the round, the more they kick usually. I love the 300, its what I shoot long range with and deer hunt with. It won't over damage the deer at all. Its going so dang fast sometimes goes through them like a lazer. My exit wounds have been about the same as my 270.

Good luck!

yep...I know a 12yo girl that shoots a .300win, she has great form and was taught right and thinks the recoil is fun.

I currently own 2 .300 WM rifles. They CAN loosen your fillings while at the bench, but never in the field IME.

Like someone else said, recoil is a relative thing. Not only does it depend on the weight of the weapon and the design of the stock, it also depends on the body build of the shooter. I am pretty solidly built and in addition have extra weight on top of that. I hear people all the time complain about how hard a 12 ga. 3 in. slug gun kicks or a M-1903 Springfield kicks. Neither one bothers me at all. Most importantly for anyone, make sure that you have a good solid hold before shooting.

OK all joking aside, as most here know I'm a loyal 300 Weatherby fan and I'm not a very big guy and don't use fancy recoil pad's or muzzle brake's. When it comes to recoil as mentioned above it's a relative thing. If you want to push 150 grain pill's over 3500 fps the side effect of that is additional recoil, how that recoil effects you and your ability to shoot that caliber can be eased in several way's. Recoil pad's and muzzle brakes seems to be the first step most take which is fine but you may not be addressing the real problem. My magnums all have one thing in common, simple straight stock's with no cheek no thumb-hole's and no offset's and just enough rise to get you squarely behind the rifle. They all share the same length and that length is determined by feel, I want them to set in the pocket comfortably whether sitting at a bench or standing. I don't want to have to move in or move out on the scope when I throw it up to my shoulder. A stock that's a half inch too long can make a big difference, you get just a little outside of the pocket and it has a tendency to make you change the angle and open your shoulder out, and recoil like water will take the path of least resistance and will hammer the outside of your shoulder. The next and most important part in my opinion is to go with the flow. I've seen way too many people line up behind a magnum and then brace themselves like they're fixing to take a punch from Mike Tyson and when it goes off they scream bloody hell about how bad it hurts. Well yea! You just did every possible thing you could do to make it hurt! Just get a firm but comfortable grip and ride the recoil. As far a getting scope bit I've never had it happen but I suspect that's a combination of improper scope mounting, fighting the recoil and obviously not getting the rifle shouldered properly, which can happen in a quick or out of position shot.

One last thing and I'll go. The only time I don't like the big boy's is when shooting from the bench, that's why I try to target them in with as few a shot's as possible, most of the time's I can do it in three to four shots and then I'm done. What you feel at the bench you won't even notice in the field when taking a shot at the big buck or bull. When I was 9 my dad and I was hunting a small lease not far from Brownwood TX, I'd just shot a doe with my 03 Springfield. While dad and I was gutting the doe a buck walked out about 90 to 100 yards away, dad told me to take him and I grabbed my rifle that was leaning against the tree and made a good off-hand shot. We got the deer cleaned and loaded and when we got back to camp and went to unload the rifle's we realized I hadn't picked up my 06 but has mistakenly grabbed my dad's 721 300 Weatherby. That was my first buck and to be honest I never felt a thing when that Weatherby went off, what a day that was.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

If youre worried about recoil of a certain caliber, chances are you don't need it.
