i have never hunted the base, but the guy i work with guides out there and has some great bucks. he also told me that the rules have changed some this year. dont know what, but i also think you have to buy a year round license for 100 dollars and take a shooting test.

Ft Hood has some very nice bucks and the occasional escaped exotic as well. We've mounted quite a few very nice deer coming from the base. Their deer management program is outstanding.

its alot of land to hunt for only $100 i usually go the venado grande deer contest and a couple of years ago one of the winners shot the buck off of ft hood it was 170+ i just figured there would be alot of people hunting it and was kind of worried about maybe too much hunting pressure

They put you in the stand of their choosing, and most of the time it's not a real good one. There's plenty of deer, and plenty of hunters but it's not overhunted. I just have had no luck with hunting on Fort Hood. Most of the stands I've been put in were awful. Either you could only see ten feet for the cedars or it was in a place where deer had no reason to go, but hey it's easy to drive to so lets put a stand here. If you decide to set up your own and bowhunt make sure to lock everything up because if you don't the thieves will have it before you're out of sight. Make sure your stand is off the beaten path or you'll get robbed blind.

This info is a little out of date but it'll give a better idea of what you need to do.
