working on my first AR build. my first venture into rifles at all...up til now just had shotguns and handguns so i'm working with little rifle knowledge. I'm trying to figure out what my options are for gas blocks. I know low profile vs front sight but what are some basic advantages/disadvantages to them? also will both fit on pretty much any platform i build? been doing some reading but would like some conversation on here if anyone can help...

Haven't you heard? REAL sportsmen drive manuals.......
The only real "Disadvantage" to a front post is with low magnification optics (1x-2x) you can get a shadow in the optics which is actually the post. Once you get above about 3x you can't see it.

Personally I prefer to use gas blocks on Ar's im going to use a scope on and and like with Aimpoints and other red dots I use either the fsb with flip rear sight or a gas block with flip front and rear sights. On my SBR I just finished im running a gas block with an Aimpoint PRO and gonna add some Troy back up sights.

We normally use gas blocks with a Picatinny rail on top on our builds unless the customer specifies a front sight post. A "low-profile" gas block is one that will fit inside a longer handguard. Here is a rifle built using a low-profile gas block underneath a YHM quadrail:

No, it appears that there is a general negative connotation to AR's period on this forum. I love AR's myself and just get tired of the negative press from the experts here. I shouldn't have said anything in the first place, but ambien can make you do some funny stuff sometimes. Chupa

Chupa X2 lol That stuff is serious! A friend of a friend took one of the time release ones, then forgot and took another. Wife found him downstairs in the kitchen with all four burners going on the gas stove and all the [censored] pulled out of the kitchen cabinets. Ive heard other bad stories about the time release ambiens as well. I only use the regular kind. Sorry about the highjack. If you want a longer rail or think you will in the future go low-pro. Otherwise, front sight. JMHO.

just depends on the optics and what you're primary purpose of the gun is, I got mine for hunting exclusively, and with a 2-7 variable scope, I had no need for the sights. I have 2x for quick sighting/woods hunting and 7x for longer distances from the stand. Depends what you are going to use it for.
