Looking at the .280 for all around Tx hunting and giggles really. What major downfalls or hype is their around it as far as reloading the round and ballistics? I'm really thinking about finding a Handi-Rifle chambered in it to see if I like it..

Like all the other ones its a great round if you shoot it good. Plenty of energy to bring down anything you will shoot in texas. I have one in a remington 700 and really like it. Im shooting a 160 grain spitzer ballistic tip with 51.5 grains of imr 4350 and getting some pretty good groupings.

yet another weak attempt by remington to horn in on the success of a winchester cardtridge
it will handle a heavier bullet than a .270, so I guess thats a plus, but the winchester is found in just about every small town gas station and gun store in texas, ammo choices are vast, and they chamber the .270 in alot more rifles than they do the .280
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

The only downfall is ammo if you don't reload other than that it's an outstanding round. 7mm bullets havr very good ballistic coefficent's a plus for longer shots and if reloading there are plenty of bullets to choose from.

I own a Rem 700 in 280, glass bedded in a B&C stock. It is a tack driver. But, as noted above, ammo availability is not the best. But then again, who waits until they get to some Podunk town near the deer lease to buy ammo? Think ahead, bring ammo, and you're fine! Great caliber.
I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.

PM MikeC he loves his custom Built and he shoots 140gr accibonds. I will be having custom .280 built for my daughter, after seeing the results from Mikes. Great choice IMHO

the 280 is a very solid round. Ammo is a little harder to find in small towns but not impossible. Like others said take your ammo with you and no problem. the 280AI might even be better, but as far as i know only Nosler has factory loads for it.

I own 2 of them, one a Rem 700, and now a custom. They are a fine round, with better than .270 BC. I have not had problems finding ammo, Academy carries it, but I do reload.
Probably my favorite caliber.

Don't know how I missed this thread. With handloads the 140 gr Accubonds will shoot into one ragged hole at 100 yards and the deer just hate it.

If you're a handloader, the .280 is superior to the .270 in every way. I agree that if you shoot factory ammo, stick with the .270, 7mm Rem Mag, or .30-06.
