I am new to turkey hunting. I have a Rem 870 12 ga. that I am thinking of rigging up for turkey. I have a red dot sight I am thinking of mounting on it or should I go with a regular scope? Also, what choke using 3 in. shells and #4 shot would be best, modified or full? Thanks for the response!

I use a Jelly head .665 and shoot 3 " winchester supremes extended . I had regular truglo sites on it but switched to a Nikon Turkey pro scope cause my eyes are getting old. It is cool cause it will range a bird for you. It puts 200 pellets in a 10" circle at 40 yrds. Not the best but Kills every Gobbler. Good luck.

I use an extended extra full choke. I also use winchester supreme #4 load. I just use triuglo sights on mine. having a scope would be nice but so faar I havnt needed it because my shots have been at 20-25 yds

Have used a red dot scope for 15 years and they rock! it allows you to hunt with both eyes open! and has large eye relief! My new toy is a remington super magnum 870 pump with a truglo gobble stopper 2 color red dot scope and a gobble stopper turkey choke tube. I have maxed tested this gun with federal preminum turkey loads out to 60 yard! adverage # of pellets at 60 yards is around 15-20 in the kill zone

patternmaster just came out with a code black choke tube for turkeys. they are a good choke company. i will be getting one for myself. as far as sights go, hard to be the ol trusty factory bead. alot of guys use red dots and love them. 3" #4's will do the trick. if you got a clear shot and feel comfortable doing so you can drop a gobbler under 50 yards with that setup. risky but its all on your personal preference.

Use 3 different ones 3 with true-glow sights, last couple years have been using 3.5 inch remington HD #6 with Jelly head chokes. In the past and in my OU Beretta used 2 3/4 inch #5 both will break up turkey heads and necks at 50 yards easy enough.
re dots work well as do scopes and trueglow sights have been working good for me.

I've hunted with a Ruger O/U the last few years with truglo sights and a Carlson's TKY(turkey) choke tube. Longest shot was 57 yards with Remington Nitro 3" #5's.
