Anyone have a negative experience with using fruit for deer. I have tossed out a couple of apples whie hunting before. This year I wanted to try rubbing some cut apples and pears on my boots before I walked to my stand.

I have tossed pears under my feeder that come from a tree in my backyard, and the deer really seem to like them.

Welcome to the THF.

The thing about pears or apples or even alfalfa, is that the deer have had to have been around the stuff, to know what it is.

There are probably enough pear trees around Texas, that a lot of deer will have eaten or tried to eat them before.

As for apples, there are not too many apple trees around.

I don't think I have ever seen or heard of pears or apples having an adverse affect, rather from my experience, if a deer does not know what it is, they just ignore it. JMO.

Couple years back we were hunting Guadalupe River SP on a 5 day Lottery deal and brought alfalfa pellets, corn and apples and enough peanut butter to load them with, after getting approval from the Hunt Mgr.

The corn was scattered in certain areas, as was the alfalfa pellets and the cored out snack sized apples that we had stuffed with the cheapest oiliest peanut butter we could find. The deer & hogs ate the corn in front of us, and I took two critters...both of which had alfalfa in them too, but the apples were licked dry and left to lay and were never eaten by anything except maybe some field mice...even the hogs ignored them.
