Shoot as many different brands that you can, buy the one that fits you and pocket book best. Good luck

PM sent about your original questions.

Also, ideally I think many people would recommend you shoot left handed. But, if you close your left eye when you shoot it will solve this problem as well. I am left eye dominant, shoot right handed and that's what I do.

blackdog,

I recommmend that you learn to shoot left handed and use your dominant eye. It will be much easier to become consistent that way. I'm an NRA certified rifle instructer and the first thing we do in the shooting portion of the class is determine eye dominance and teach them to shoot with their dominant eye. That said, if you're able to close your dominant eye and use the other (some people can't close their dominant eye and keep the other open. my son is that way) you can become consistent with practice.

What if you don't know how to shoot, therefore you have no idea if what you are shooting is good or bad, other than what the price tag and salesman say. Do most archery places have a range?

I would start as cheap as possible in a bow that is draw length adjustable without a bow press.

If you are a strong individual you may consider a 60-70lb bow but a 50-60lb is not a bad idea for your first.

A used ready to shoot package with a good string would probably be your best bet. Lets you get your feet wet but if it isn't for you don't blow all of your money away getting decked out on the newest stuff.

I went to TTHA show last weekend in San Antonio. I found a vendor selling complete setups. They did all adjustments and fitted the bow to me. Took about 20 minutes to do it all. I got a Mathews with everything but arrows for $400.
I am an active competition shooter and have definitely learned the hard way to buy quality the first time. I had looked online and seen in stores. Friends recommended getting one that was fitted to me. Not just the best price.

Mike

I agree, just like my rifles CRY ONCE. Get the best. The only thing about bows is they all seem to come out with the latest greatest bow every year. RE:Z-7, Z-7 Extreme. So you spend $1000 on a bow and next year it's obsoleet and worth about 1/2 what you pay for it.
