I have a new 25.06 that is ready for sight in and ammo selection. I have a couple of boxes of ammo ready to try but would like to try a premium 100gr bullet of some sort. Federal Premium has both the Nosler Partition and the Barnes Triple Shock in 100gr factory ammo. Does anyone has any strong opinions on these one way or the other? I'm sure they are both fine rounds but I just need something to nudge me one way or the other. I'm leaning towards the Barnes.

For reference, most of my shots will be inside 200 yards, with the bulk under 150. The other ammo I have is Hornady Custom 117gr BTSP (which my 270 loves) and regular old Winchester Power Points in silver box in 120gr (which are available everywhere)

This^^^ the TSX performs very well in light high speed calibers.

Of the two choices I would have to go with the Nosler Partition simply because thats the one I use on a regular basis and I have no complaints. I have some TSX I plan to try this year but I really dont think its going to kill them any more dead than the Partition.

What I have used in my 25-06

Nosler custom ammo-100 grain partitions
3300ft/s
.75-1.25 MOA
4 deer 3 hogs

Federal-100grain TSX
3125 fts..I think
1-1.5 MOA

Custom work up- 100grain TSX
3310ft/s
.5-.75 MOA
2-antelope
8 deer
12 hogs
mulie doe
*cpcartiage.com. very close to same load.

Gunwerks 115 vld hunting
3150 ft/s
.5-.65 MOA
No game killed...bullet construction worries me on any thing under 300 yards..especially 75-100yards. My long range play bullet

Like the nolser custom ammo and partitions via performance and availablity

TSX's and partitions have great on game performance...with tsx being best by a nuge.

25-06 excels with hot 100gr bullets..many of the deer I have shot with it exceed the live weight mark of 250.

Note...thinking of getting a load work up using 80gr TTSX's

The 80gr ttsx is my go to load in my 257wby...one game performance is just devastating beyound beleif!!! Should do equally well in 25-06.

Oops. Sorry about that. I don't know how I missed it. It's been a while since I logged on.

Either one will work fine. Let your rifle tell you which on it likes best. But as a practical matter, for shots under 200 yards, you don't need MOA accuracy anyway.

And FWIW the 120gr Winchester Positive Expanding Point (it's not a Power Point) will work just as well, too!

What I prefer is deep penetration and a nice exit wound and blood trail if needed. And I need them to open up inside 200 yards, preferably inside 100 yards.

Sounds like the Barnes is edging ahead in preference. But with most questions like this, there is probably no "best", just degrees of good.

BOBO, you want to sell me a box or two of your custom work up TSX's smile

I'm out..lol
Why I started shooting the nolser when in a pinch. Plus been saving brass cuz I really want to try the 80gr TTSX in the 25- 06.

For your use
I would try the barnes vor-tx 100gr TTSX or the nolser custom ammo 100grain partitions. Federal load just wasn't consitant in my rifle

Nothing in north america I wouldn't shot using either the ttsx, tsx, or hot partition in 25-06. Excluding big crazy grizz....but I have no want to hunt one .

I've had issues with Federal ammo before as well. My Win Mod70 HATED it. I much prefer Hornady factory stuff.

I'll look at the Barnes Vor-TX TTSX and the Nosler Custom stuff. What I really need to do is gear up to roll my own. But I can't seem to get motivated for it.

In a fast moving caliber like 25-06 I would want to go with the tsx, but the partitions will do good to. I would shoot them both and whichever one is more accurate is what I would use.

For me partitions have always been more accurate

So far I have lost 1 deer and 1 hog with TSX. Both times using Black Hills 130 grn. 270 at about 3000 fps. I found the hog a few days later. The bullet had zipped strait through about 2 inches below the spine without causing much damage. He was about 800 yards from where I shot him.

Both will do the job, but in a .25-06 I would opt for the TSX.

in the 25-06, I believe either would work just fine. I'd say use whichever shoots best. I'd start lookin at whichever is cheaper, just cause thats how I roll! smile

I'm loading partitions in my 358 for elk, just because the cartridge is small for caliber, which leaves little space for the projectile, and the all0copper construction of the Barnes makes it a bit "fat" (really ..... long) for the job.

Either of your chosen bullets will work, shoot a deer or pig with either from your 25-06 and their will to escape will go out the other side. Another bullet to consider would be the 110 accubond available from Nosler Custom ammo as well.

My preference of the 2 listed is partitions.
