UNLESS YOU PLAN ON HUNTING WEARING HEARING PROTYECTION MUZZLE BREAKS ARE NOT WOTH IT AT ALL. Trust me I just got rid of my wifes tack driving 243 because someone had a muzzle break installled on it when they bought it previously. I made the mistake of shooting it ONCE without hearing protection and my ears rang for 3 days.

I disagree. I had one put on by Doc here in Dallas and it is only loud if you are infront of it. It is made by Gentry and is called the "quite muzzle break" The difference b/t it and others is that the ports are angled out toward the front of the gun and not straight out to the sides. Therefore all the noise goes forward and not to the sides like most breaks. (By directing the gases and noise, away from the shooter it is much more quite.) Cuts recoil in half. I don't see it any louder than guns without them and I am a huge fan.

I had a break put on at Doc's and it's loud! Makes a big difference in the way it shoots! I believe it's worth it. Thats my two cents!

I have a 30.06 and had a muzzle brake put on at Elk Castle in Fort Worth. I use it at the range to site in and then take it off and replace it with a "thread protector" and shoot a group of 3 to make sure it is still on target. I don't use it again until next time at the range.

I've got one on my Savage 110 in 30.06 and I don't have any problems with it at all. I had mine put on at McClelland in Garland.

Go talk to Rudy over at Blueing Bros, on Old London in Mesquite. If he's still there? I had him put a break on my 7-08 varmint gun years ago, and I love it. He put one on a buddy's 6mm at the same time, and he's loves his as well.
As far as noise goes, it's a personal preference thing. Some will complain that their too loud, others won't. In my experience, for one shot their not too bad. More than one, and you'll need hearing protection! If I'm carrying my 7-08 deer hunting, which happens on occaision, I always make sure I have some toilet paper in my pocket. If a group of pigs come in, or if I'm doe hunting, I'll usually have time to stuff some in my ears before shooting. If it's a buck I really like, I'll just shoot him. But that being said, my rifle, with or w/o the break, is not nearly as loud as the Superduperultramegamagnums that most guys deem necessary to bring down a 150lb animal. On those guns, it might be a different story.

I had the barrel ported on my 7Mag and it makes a big difference in recoil. It doesn't seem to be as loud as ones with muzzle brakes.

Just bought the Boss-CR to replace the original Browning Boss. It was painfully LOUD. Recoil is nothing compared to my ears ringing for two day.

If you get one installed on your rifle alway wear an ear plug in your left ear if your a right handed shooter or right ear if a lefty. Never shoot it if some one is standing next to you unless they have total hearing protection on. They work great just need to be cautious about your hearing.

LMAO
I thought the purpose of a muzzle break was too lessen the recoil and silencers were made to stop the noise. I wish I had both on my TC Super 14 in .35 Rem!

One thing on the muzzle break if you decide you have to have it, make sure you can remove it and replace it with a thread protector. I've heard of guides refusing to let clients hunt with a gun that had a break on it. If weight isnt an issue you might try getting a mecury recoil reducer put in the stock. They run about 150 installed, same as a muzzle break.
