Well, after all the talk about wood duck boxes, tack strips, varmint gaurds, sharks teeth, coon traps, 22 mags, 17 hmr, monkey chow....etc. i think i have solved my raccoon problem.

looking forward to setting this joker up this weekend. gonna fill it with 1000 pounds of golden goodness and walk away. it will be nice the next time i go back knowing that i will be able to hunt some pigs and not worrying about it being empty.

How does this stop the coons? I looked at the website but cant quite figure out why they dont just get on top of it anf spin the corn out.

look at the website again. there is no corn sitting on the spinner plate to fall out.

But a few dollars worth of PVC and a little time accomplishes the same result.

Hey deerkiller if you can see the plastic auger on that unit is there a mfgs name on that part. I need one a tad shorter.

Thumbs up guys! How does a few pieces of pvc accomplish the same result? i have pictures of coons climbing up the pvc upside down then stealing corn! How does PVC keep me from having to climb a ladder to fill my feeder?

Killa: I'm not knocking your product. I know some guys who own them and like them. They say one of the big advantages is that they are very light (when empty) and easy to move from one spot to another.

But, IMO, they are very expensive, when compared to some other options.

To answer your question,I have a crank-up feeder so lifting bags is not an issue, and I have seen no evidence of coons getting past the PVC tubing on the legs. If you have pics, I'd be very interested in seeing them!

I had a crank up feeder and sold it. wish i wouldn't have because i never had a problem with coons getting to it. the legs were spread apart so far they couldn't reach it.

Varmint guards. metal funnel looking things mounted where the legs go through the center.
Mine range from 14" to 18" in diameter after a couple weeks they gave up trying to get over or around them. You have to make them with heavy enough material that the varmints can't bend them and they have to be fastened securely to the legs.
We've never seen another coon or squirrel on a feeder since installing them.

Feeders with the legs attached at a height or width where there is no way a varmint can reach the critter cage, motor housing or spinner plate.
A lot of winch up type feeders and those with long legs attached to the center or upper part of the barrel work well.


The funnel shaped metal varmint guards will work on any pole, post, leg or tree.
If built and installed correctly they work best out of anything Ive seen or tried."



Don't know why the PVC did not work for him but maybe it wasn't hanging free so that it could rotate.

All I can say is that it works for me, and I have read all the coon threads on this forum and don't recall reading anyone saying that the hanging PVC pipe doesn't work.

Furthermore, your source Rustler, seem to provide several workable solutions that don't invlove the Capsule feeder.

And to answer your question: No, my feeder will not hold 1000 lbs. I see no reason to want to put that much corn in it!

Finally, again, I have no problem with your feeder. It's a very clever design that seems to solve a lot of problems with conventional feeders....it's just danged expensive.

One question for you: Do you work for, or have any affiliation with Capsule Feeders?

i do not i am just very proud of it. It may be expensive but it has a 20 year warranty. I can make 10 trips up to the lease ($4.00 per gallon of diesel, corn and food = $300 per trip) trying to fasten pvc pipes to the legs, try to fasten sheet metal cones to the legs that i see the cows destroying or i can just save all the money that i will loose in corn for the next 5 years and buy a good feeder that will solve the problem.

I'm not affiliated with Yeti coolers either but i have one. got tired of buying hinge and latch kits for the junky igloos. At $3.00 per bag of ice it has already paid for itself.

The cost of the item is relative. relative to the cost of material it will save you going forward and for what your time is worth.

I have been battling raccoons since 1993, i have tried everyone of the options listed so far. I don't see myself quiting hunting anytime soon so my new feeder expense pales in comparison to the amount of feed i will save over the next 18 years.....especially at $10.00 per bag!

One thing I HAVE wondered about regarding the capsule feeder. If the deer happens to be on the other side of the feeder, I guess you are SOL 'til he moves. And if he is between you and the feeder, I guess you have to be carful that you don't put a bullet thru the deer into your expensive feeder!

Just have to have a really tall blind for the ones behind the feeder and keep a roll of duct tape handy or fiberglass patch for the ones in front. I was wondering about a big hog shoving that thing around and off the ranch when it gets low on corn and does not weigh that much.

Now that you outfoxed the coons, you have to figure out how to keep the rats and squirrels from chewing holes in it. I had a Kenco Tornado that had a plastic barrel and very heavy plastic (near 1/4") housing for the spinners and motors. Squirrels chewed through both the barrel and motor housing like it was a pop bottle.
The dang squirrels in Kansas must have teeth like beavers. LOL

I do like the looks and ease of filling of the feeder you bought.

It sounds like a great option for you. I only live 1.5 hours from my place, and I really don't want my wife to counter with, "Your feeder holds 1000 lbs of corn - you don't need to go out there every 2 weeks." when I insist that feeders must be filled.
