There has been a lot of talk about Rage lately so let's change it up.

I am a Rage fan but I want to add a fixed blade to my arsenal. I have shot slick trick and montecs but I have only shot an armadillo with a montec.

Any ideas on these? I open to any fixed blade opinions.

I love my Rage's but there are certain scenarios where I want to have a fixed blade.

I shoot the Slick Tricks, but my buddy shoots the Montec's and loves them. Never shot the others, muzzy's did not fly good out of my setup. Strikers flew ok but not great. Never shot an animal with any other fixed, other than a Slick. If I cannot get it to fly good out of my setup I am not going to take it into the field.

We have 3 fixed blade broadheads that we use on occasion. NAP Razorcaps, Muzzy Phantoms, and Slick Tricks. We absolutely love the Muzzy Phantoms and the Razorcaps. Both are more of a traditional style head that is elongated with a very steep angle. Wendy especially loves the Razorcaps. With the steep angle they get awesome penetration out of her DXT shootiing 55 lbs. And they leave awesome blood trails. I have shot 5 animals with them gotten pass thrus on everything and everything has dropped in sight including a mature fallow buck that took 3 steps and fell over. Her stuff runs no more than 60 yards and falls over. And they hit the exact same place as our field points

I shot Muzzy MX3's and Phantoms last year. Both worked great and I didn't notice much difference in the blood trails or how far the deer went after the shot. I will say the MX3's flew a little better with my setup. Especially over 30 yards my groups were much tighter with the MX3s.
I'm one of those that has never shot mechanical so I can't compare. I know what the fixed blades will do and don't see a reason to change.

I LOVE the montec cs and good ole thunderheads. Have not used slick tricks but I have heard nothing but good things about them. I shot muzzys but they didn't fly strait for me.

Another Montec fan, of course it is the only thing I have shot a deer with but it blew threw here and she didn't go more than 40 yards before collapsing.

Look at the snuffer and woodsman broadheads. Very easy to sharpen, easy to tune and the blood trails are second to none. I stopped using expandables years ago. Guys using expandables just are not willing to take their time and tune their bow properly. Hit the shoulder with an expandable you probally will not recover the animal. Hit it with a snuffer, your odds just went up recovering it. Oh ya the cost for six, thirty bucks!

I shot my last two deer with Montec G5. Doe went 10 yrds and the 14pt brute went 40 yrds. Both worked extremely well. However I am not pleased with the sharpness. They are very rugged and perform but can not hold an edge. Hard to sharpen. I believe its the alloy mixture they use. I will be changing this year even though ive had sucess.

Big bulky heads have some advantages but when you start shooting them at the speeds possible today they turn into an utter headache. Not saying it isn't possible but I would have had to buy .250 spine arrow and they don't make any that are light so it wasn't an option for me. I'll put my expandables through the shoulder vs your snuffer through the shoulder if you are providing the deer.

I know that seems strange. But these broadheads come razor sharp from the factory and after one use I havnet been able to get the same sharpness back. They just wont hold the edge. I will try Slick Tricks this year.

Have you tried to Montec CS? They are much better at holding their edge...

I was shooting Montecs and they did great. Changed to NAP Hell Razors last year after finding them on a close out. Just went to Magnus to shoot Hogs with because of the warranty and they really shoot well out to 40 yards with my set up.
