I have not deer hunted in a while and definitely not up on best loads to use in different cases. I will have two stands with different ranges in the east Texas woods. One stand will have a range of up to 175 yards while the other will have a range up to maybe 75 yards. What would be a good load/type shell to use for my 270. Plan to zero it in @ 100 yards and will it be a little low at short range (50-75 yards) but from 100-175 be about on target?

Howdy ! I use a .270 and reload for it. I typicly use a 130 grain bullet and it works well for me out to distances that I am comfortable with... 100-300 yards. There are several good weight bullets and powder loads if you reload and I have used 140 and 150 grain but 130 works best for me. Just get a few different ones and use what works best for you. Good luck.

I don't reload so just looking for off the shelf suggestions. For the range it may not matter a whole lot but asking to be sure.

Just about all of them will do the job just fine. I would try the cheap stuff first and work up, get some 130 gr rem corlocks and winchester power points and see what they do, they should kill deer and hogs just fine.

Winchester has a new line out call the POWERMAX JHP and they are bonded hollow points.
At $20 a box they are hard to beat, other than that I would use the winchester power points.
NOt a fan of corelokts at all

I agree that pretty much any 130gr or 150gr 270 load will work fine for your purposes. No need for premium stuff. Just by some Winchester Power Points or some Remington Core Lokts, and if they group say 2" or less at 100yds, youare set to go.
If you are recoild shy, Remingtion's Managed Recoil ammo would work well for you also.

My 270 shoots best with Federal Premium 140 grain Nosler Accubonds. I also like the Winchester 140 grain Nosler Accubond.
