Can someone tell me the difference between a .300 Win Mag and a .300 Ultra Mag? Are the ballistics different?

A bunch different. The 300 Ultra Mag has the same ballistics, maybe slightly better than the 300 Weatherby Mag..
Both are a few hundred feet per second faster than the 300 Win Mag and with a corresponding increase in Muzzle energy.

300 Ultra Mag has just a little more umph to it, but it's harder to find ammo for it. I have the Ultra Mag and really like it, just wish I could swing in to anywhere and buy the rounds I like. I have to look a little bit.
Rem makes a 7 mm Ultra Mag on the same case... same thing just necked down to the 7mm. It's one heck of a round too (power and flat), but the ballistics are a little better still on the 300. My buddies have the 7mm Ultra Mags and they wished they had got the 300...
