If the hunt came up, I would have to purchase a bigger bore gun. 300WSM most likely or a 325WSM. The 270/7mm WSM's would work too I guess... Never compared them thou...

RWH, Do you prefer the SM as they allow for a shorter action, and thus shorter rifle, or something else, or both shortness, and something else?

For some unknown reason I have just been set on Short Actions. No Particular reason. I like the calibre's based on the 308 shell case, and believe from reading the WSM's are super efficient and accurate. The WSSM's don't appeal to me at all...

I have a .300wby sendero and that would be great for hunting over a water hole.
But if we were on the move I would go with a 300wsm

Every High Priest of North American hunting who wants one gun and to spend his money on other things knows the 30.06 was, is, and always will be the king. I bet you guys don't know who goes last if everyone arrives at a 4-way stop at the same time either.

.375 Ruger. Enough gun for anything I should ever care to shoot.

My .338 Win Mag is hard to beat for elk.

I take my 300WM with me every fall. It's a stone cold killer and I can buy my Horady 180grain SST's for 38.00 a box. I don't have the eye's for it anymore but I've killed several elk in the past that we way out there. The calibers mentioned will all take down a bull. The key is to find one that your not too light in the britches to shoot and practice. Later Baker

Have to agree with you, 7mm rem mag. When I built my last rifle, I Did alot of research, found very little difference in the performance up to 500 yds for most of the big guns - plus I already the brass, bullets, dies, etc. The improvement was so small going to a 30 cal that it made since to stay where I was.
