I am looking at ATVs , now I don't know much about them I use to ride montorcycles back in my younger days but that was a while ago.

Any way, I found this site that has these new imports that are CHEAP, one of the things about them is they are chain drive. What is the advantage or disadvantage to having a shaft drive or chain drive? This new ATV is called a TAOTAO
its from China and when I say cheap I mean cheap Chain drive 250 $900.00 shaft drive 250 $1600.00 makes me think about when some of the inported cars started out really cheap then went real high pretty quick.

do your homework. I just bought an ATV and saw these low prices. Everywhere I read about it, they all said the same. JUNK. Some guys were saying the bolts would all fall off, others saying they could not get parts... the list just went on and on. You do what you want, just go do your homework before you buy. I'm guessing there is a reason Honda, Yamahaw, Kawi, & polaris are 4 times the price.

I know of a great place to buy used name brand atv's that are almost new and run great. The guy buys them in bulk at the auction and then only makes about 400 a bike when he sells them. I picked mine up for 400 under kelly blue book which is pretty rare in the atv market. I could not be happier. PM me if you want the details.

You have to think what you are using it for and size. If it is to get to get around get a 250-400cc, if you need to haul some crap get 400-600. I personaly have a 400 yamaha 4x4 and it will do anything I ever needed. Unless you are into mudding etc you dont need all those cc's. You dont' need to go that fast either. Mine will do 50+ mph , way to fast. Go with major brand like others have said.

One of my buddys bought 5 of them in different sizes for his place. He had 3 250s and 2 smaller ones for his kids. They were supposedly Honda clones, he did this 3 years ago, they were manual transmissions too. They were ok, other than the tranny's the first year, last year they sat in the barn because of varying problems and he scrapped them all a few weeks ago. JUNK, and complete waste of money!

I would recommend going to local auctions. You can easily pick up a nice fourwheeler for around a $1000. I went to one in Bowie a couples weeks ago and they about 20 ATV's from brand new to 7 or 8 years old. I would recommend staying with a Big brand name for parts purposes.

Ditto on everything above. My son in law bought a couple of the motorcycles and everything fell off of them. They are an absolute waste of $. Good ATV's are like Timex's. They take a lickin and keep on tickin. I have a couple of 5 year old 400 cc Yamahas. They have taken everything that I can throw at them.

One of mine was stolen and recovered. I found that ATV's depreciate about 40% when they leave the show room floor. I would have no problem buying a gently used one and wouldn't worry about the looks.

Is there such a thing as a "gently" used ATV?

I had one. I bought it new and sold it 2 years later and it had less than 100 miles on it. It was indeed gently used but I also got within $750 of what I paid for it new.

Nah, I guess theres no such thing as gently ridden. Heck, I'm 64 and, while I don't jump things or anything like that, I take them everywhere.
