Of the different models out there which is the best?

I was thinking of it for a trainer and plinker. How accurate are they?

Should I just get a 1022?

Get an M&P15-22, it's the only one that actually works/looks/operates/strips essentially identically.

The Colt model does not. A 10-22 keeps the basic form but as a trainer, lacks.

I've tried a few and settled on Heckler & Koch licensed, Walther made, HK416D

Sweet little shooter and very accurate.

I have a S&W 15-22 that has functioned absolutely flawless and is lots of fun. Eats everything. My box stock stainless 10/22 is sligtly more accurate. For the price and aftermarket accessoies that are availible I would go with the 10/22. With it you can be as serious as your pocketbook will allow.

Ive had both I have a built 10/22 that will shoot one ragged hole all day long at 50yds and 1-1.5 inches at 100yds on a calm day.

And I had a s&w 15-22 was also pretty damn accurate and tons of fun and worked flawless with all ammo.

I sold the s&w and regret it now but I will never sell my ruger

Will never part with mine. Might trade or sell my 10-22 tho.
