eating them will be fine. might have a few fleas but you can eat them anytime of the year.
*tip - wet the fur before skinning, less hair on the meat

Season on them where I live. Is that stupid or what?

Season on them where I live. Is that stupid or what? I think you can still shoot them if they're damaging crops but I could be wrong

I think you can still shoot them if they're damaging crops but I could be wrong You are required to get a depredation permit from TPWD and have individuals lined up who will take the squirrels as food; they may not be wasted due to them being a game animal. However, I doubt a garden will constitute a depredation permit. Check with your local game warden before you begin shooting them. Find out if your county has an open season on them first: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/season/county_listing/

Don't use an air rifle, BBgun or pellet gun to shoot or harvest them, those means & methods are not legal for any game animal or bird.

The worms people speak of are warvels. They only infect the top layer of skin. Just cut around it and its ok.

There is a May season in my part of the state. We have shot and ate them for 35 years and never had problems with worms or bad relationships. If they are fox squirrels, drag them off. They are tough and hard to skin. Cat squirrels, however, are great! Par boil and deep fry!
