Visited my parents in Kerrville over the weekend. Made a trip to Walmart to pick up some stuff. A local woman, a retiree from Houston and her husband were handing out flyers in front of the store about a mountain lion that was killing livestock off of Harper Road. I did not ask if it was north or south of I-10. Last year one was killed around that area I cannot recall if a car hit it or a bullet.
I asked the woman why she thought it was a mountain lion and not coyotes or wild dogs. She said that they don't even own livestock. That over the last two weeks, three feral hogs were killed on her property by a large cat. She said the hogs were well over 100 pounds and that a coyote would not leave puncture wounds on the neck and claw scratch marks on the body. Plus she saw the footprints.
She was dead pan serious about this too. No joke. Serious.

It's interesting that she went out on her own to make flyers and pass them out. I wonder if she contacted TPWD or local game wardens.

Alot of retirees walk with their dogs around there and wildlife encounters are somewhat common. A couple people have been attacked by female deer this year while trying to protect their newborn fawns. The people did not know the baby was in the grass. It happens.

Bite to the back of the neck is a trademark of a cat. Coyotes usually go under the neck.

Hmmmm. I know there are occasional sightings and kills of lions in the Kerrville area. I would be interested in finding out if the hog kills were reported to the TP&WD as well. Adios, Gary
