Why do you say it would be illegal? I am a Civil War reenactor and know of many people who own fully functional cannons. I normally do an infantry impression, but am trained also as an artilleryman and have helped man cannons during battle scenarios. They are antique reproductions and are perfectly legal to own and shoot with no special permits or registration required.

It is illegal to shoot game animals with cannons, but certainly not illegal to own or shoot one. Explosive shells might be illegal, but solid shot and canister is certainly legal and lethal. Hmm...got me to thinking...Imagine a herd of hogs at a hundred yards in front of a 12 pounder Napoleon loaded with a double load of cannister...Devastating would be an understatement!

I'm just guessing here.. but I think that would fall under the whole "Manufacture" heading. "Assembling" one from a kit that you purchased from either a licensed dealer or private individual would be a different matter.

Clarification..?

I figured that you would need a manufacturers license?????

I know that muzzle loading cannons aren't considered destructive devices but I would assume you have to have a manufacturers license to build one. Maybe not???

Never mind... I did some looking and from what I understand the ATF does not consider a muzzle loading cannon to be a firearm (just from forums online). From what I understand they are not regulated... but that could be wrong.

If thats the case... I dont see anything wrong with a 2 inch bore (but then again I know nothing about cannons).
