They're on sale again. At least at the Allen and Ft. Worth locations anyways. I don't remember exactly, but I think the sale runs until the 30th.
For anyone thats been wanting to snag one here is your chance to save 50.00.
I picked one up the other day. The tag said 149.00 still but it rang up correctly and 108.00 and some change out the door. First gun purchase at Cabela's and it couldn't have gone any smoother. In and out in 15 min. Very efficient and friendly bunch over there.

Got mine at a gun show last year for $99 with a bayonet, ammo carrier, and cleaning kit. Nice guns for the price.

When cleaning all the cosmoline off the action the best method I've found is to.... break down the action completely with the exception of the extractor. This will be six pieces. boil em in water....yes, boil em, for 15-20 min or so. then dry em off as best you can by hand and blowing out the tight spots. then put it all in the oven for about 20 min on 350 to dry out anything else you couldn't get to. Re-assemble and lube to your liking.

Sounds like a good way to get rid of every last bit of that crap. I might use distilled water for the boiling to keep any mineral deposits from forming or causing any corrosion. Just a thought.

I bought one at the FW gun show back in the winter. I've shot about 20 rounds through it, and I must say, it shoots like a champ. I have found them for $89 on militarygunsupply.com

If you have your C&R, go check out Military Gun Supply, they every once in a while will run a $79 special that includes bayonet, cleaning kit, oil bottle and ammo pouch. Dunno if they do it anymore, but that's how I got my last 3..2 Izzy's and a hex Tula.

I grabbed one today and they all seemed to be in good shape. Bores were bright, crowns were good, all were '43 models at the Allen store.

My buddy grabbed himself one and me one dated '40 and '41. Haven't seen them yet though. Can't wait to see how they do.
My buddy was saying something about the ones being made before '49, I think, were made with much more fit and finish work done to them and were much more accurate than the later ones. He says there's a big visible difference in between the two types also.
Anyone have some insight on this?

Anyone have some insight on this? It can be a bit hit & miss as to the quality you find, but generally by the end of the second world war they were cranking them out as fast as possible and if the bayonet fit, a bullet left the barrel, and the case was extracted it was considered good to go. Nobody cared much for a poor fitting stock or hammer marks. The best looking ones I have seen are pre-WWI, but honestly none have ever been beautiful or well refined. Mine is certainly not a looker. I have a '39 that I intend to start reloading for, because I am certain that it will shoot better than the crappy surplus ammo that I feed it. Then again maybe I just need excuse to buy another set of dies. -ww
A thousand reasoned opinions never equal to one case of diving in and finding out.
