Guys looking for some help with optics,
Will be going on a x-bolt 300 wsm
What I have been looking at so far I found a burris black diamond 6-24x50 for 700 burris fullfield II 6-20x50 for 400
and a Leupold VX-3L 6.5-20x56mm for 950
I like the leupold for how low it can sit. My dad has a burris that he likes and my bother has a leupold that he raves about. I really want to stay in the 5-900 range with the magnification at about 20.
What to you guys think

Bushel banners work miracles. Do you run a Banner on a Savage?? Banners are ok in lower magnification for the money. In higher magnification it becomes obvious why they are priced less.

I own a Zeiss Conquest and love it. I would spend about a $1000 and get a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20 or check into other brands and compare them to what you have listed for quality vs. price. Do not own one but the Vortex line of scopes look great for the money. I have a couple of older Leupolds and was big fan of them years ago but do not care much for the newer models they have out right now. They just do not seem to have the quality they once had.

He was looking for a 6-20+ range of scope though not going to get that in a Z3 though but still a much better scope than what he is looking at.

I found a burris black diamond 6-24x50 for 700
Out of those this would most likely be my pick. Others I would also consider would be Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50 or Nikon Monarch 6-24x50.

Bushnell Elite Tactical 6-24 X 50mm, MIL turret, Illuminated MIL retical, First Focal Plane, 30 mm tube. That's the ticket in that price range. http://www.bushnell.com/products/scopes/riflescopes/eliteTactical/I got mine from Vernon Richardson [sig226fan (Rguns.com)] last year and have nothing but good things to say about it.

Bushy Elites are hard to beat for the price by far best glass in their price range. That being said I jus traded into a new model Leupy M4 and its alot more impressive than I expected so I believe some of their QC is coming up.

Just to muddy the water a bit, you can also get one of the new model Nikon Monarch 5-20x44's for $520, or the 6-24x50 for $650. I have the Monarch 4-16x44 on my 300 WSM.

I will second the Monarch 5-20x44, possibly the best power ratio and obj size out there, with a lifetime warranty.
However it has a fairly shallow DOF, and requires refocusing if the game is a decent bit off your Parallax setting.
the 5x is great at night ( Its on a coyote 22-250 gun) while the 20x makes you a target shooter at the range.
In your price range, I would also seriously consider Sightron's higher end scopes.
Loopy still uses ancient cheap design of the eyepiece adjustment, no different than a k-mart scope. and it can allow moisture to get in the backside. If that so-called locking ring ever loosens up while hunting your poa/poi can shift. I spent way to much $$ to find that out. Will never buy another loopy.

Bob I'm about to throw that Monarch 5.5-20x44 on my WSM, so this is my vote. I had the Buckmaster 4.5-14X40 on there for years and it never let me down.

My Remmy 700 Varmint in .308 is wearing a Vortex Viper 6.5-20X50 PA. For the money, I don't think you can beat the Viper line, unless you wait for the Viper HS or PST lines to come off backorder. Mine is a 30mm tube, side focus, resettable turret model with dead hold BDC reticle. The glass is CLEAR to my eyes. In fact, I wasn't able to tell a difference between the Viper, Conquest or Meopta Meostar R-1. Of those three, the Conquest is actually a downstep (IMO) due to 1" tube as opposed to 30mm on the other two. That said, the Conquest glass is, theoretically, marginally better, since it was comparably bright in a 1" model to the two 30mm models which should have been brighter. However, the value of the Viper, when all features were considered, made my choice for me. Well, that and the fact that I got a DEEP discount on it. On top of all that, customer service at Vortex is top notch, if you have a problem, no matter why, you'll get a repair or replacement for free, and if you wish to upgrade, you can do that as well. I started off with Vortex's entry level scope, the Crossfire, and it broke. I called and worked out an upgrade. I sent them a little (very little) money, they shipped me a new scope and I just dropped the old one in the original box, applied the shipping label the sent with it, and sent it back, and the new scope was on my doorstep the day after I called them!

Look into Vortex scopes. From what I've heard about them from operators to competitions shooters is they're, maybe, 75% of the scope a Nightforce NSX is at about half the price and a little better than their Bench Rest models but that's really more of an apples to oranges comparison since they're for different purposes. But everybody has great things to say about their clarity, low light performance, repeatability, durability, and bells and whistles. The only down side is trying to find one of the best ones, like one of these towards the bottom: http://swfa.com/Vortex-Viper-PST-Rifle-Scopes-C2860.aspxThey're in high demand right now but the ones in the middle of the page might be easier to get. SFPs are going to be easier to get then FFPs and $150 cheaper so that's a consideration worth taking. Either way, I'm of the thinking that the higher end Vortex's are the best bang for your buck including customer service. The lower end ones probably should be avoided, IMO. Hope this helps, good luck.
