Either one is a fine round for deer. I would give a slight nod to the 6mm in the performance category. Didn't remington come out with a 244 to compete with the 243 but had the twist rate in their barrels a little off, then fixed the issue and renamed it the 6mm cuz the 244 already had a bad name? Yea .244 was twisted for light varmint type bullets but would stabilize some rn sp stuff. I have a few .244's still loaded up for the on my grandfather had.

It will kill any thing in Texas. I have killed 250 + pound pigs with it just as dead as with my 45/70, 300 wim mag, or 338 win mag. The beauty to me is the 600 is a short rifle and in a box blind it is very easy to manuver and in the woods it is fast to shoulder and aim.

no differnce between the 243 and the 6mm, i have culled well over 100 whitetails with these two rounds from 10 yards to 400 yards - mostly used 100 grain nosler partitions - works great. Even shot a sandhills muley 11x9 that grossed 200" with the 6mm using 70 grain ballistic tips - not the best choice, but was walking out to a dead coyote when the big mulie jumped up - put the little pill in the heart and he went about 25 yards before piling up - field dressed 260lbs.

My kids shoot a Ruger M77 6mm with a bull barrel. Very little kick and extremely accurate. We only take heart and lung shots with it. It has killed everything we have shot at with it. We have dropped three deer at the 200 yard mark with it.
Very little performance difference between it and the .243. There is a much larger range of factory ammo for the .243 than the 6mm. I have had a hard time finding 6mm ammo before as well. BPS and Academy do not sell it. Fortunately, some Walmarts do.

6mm is just fine and maybe a bit more umph in the use of a li more powder capacity with the longer brass. My Pastor used a Springfield rifle converted to 6mm for several years and too kdeer with it every season.
I've taken 3 deer with .243 (100gr sp) and 2 deer with my favorite sub .30 cailber, a 6.5x55 SE(Swede) 140gr sp!
The way things should be are not often the way things are.....
