For my Bday my dad gave me his Bob Dozier D2 knife unused that he has had for almost 20 years. It was stored a little improperly and has some small small rust spots in the D2. Is there a way to clean them off and start with the new finish where I can take care of the metal. I was like a kid in a candy store when I opened up this knife. The quality is awesome.

It depends on what finish the blade has. You can clean up light rust very easy with steel wool or a very fine grit sandpaper, but if it's a polished blade, it will have to be repolished. It's no big deal either way. up

You might try to contact Bob Dozier and see if he will refinish it for you.

I prefer FLITZ for polishing all my items that are not blued.
It is a very fine compound that you can you with a cotton cloth or even a dremel with a cloth wheel. I have seen it at gun shows, but, i can't tell you what store to find it in as this is something that my wife cam home with (she bought it for polishing silver and came home with a sustantial amount)
a little goes a long way.

Flitz polish might work if the stain isn't too deep. If Flitz doesn't work then you're in a tough spot. You can remove it with sandpaper, steel wool, etc. but you're gonna change the finish of the blade in that spot for sure, which can be just as unappealing as a rust spot.

If it was me and Flitz didn't get it done I'd probably just leave it there. Gives the knife some character.

Edit: Nevermind, I just saw that this was an old thread that got bumped.

My oppinon is you contact a knifemaker near you to take care of it. It's better a pro do it for you. It's a dozier knife and deserves that :-)

. Hunting/fishing is my favorites and also knifemaker since many yrs.
