I woke up this morning and decided its time to take up a new hobby. I've killed literally thousands of animals over my lifetime and I've lost my taste for it. With only the wife and I left at home and her being a semi-vegetarian, my deer meat last way too long these days and the overpopulation coupled with the extreme climate is making for poorer quality meat. Hogs are starting to test positive for diseases too.

Elk I've downed in the past, I've had to give the meat away and its hard to handle animal of that size by yourself.

I still really enjoy predators but why?

I may harvest an axis every so often but thats about it.

I'd say its low testosterone but I still get it up everytime the wife walks by.

Happy Huntin fellas

I call your hunting spots, if its private property I expect a PM with written access to all your properties....

Thanks for passing on to the younger generation and I will drop off however much meat you want when ever you need it.

you do realize that coming on the THF to say you are giving up hunting is like going to the playboy mansion to say you are giving up looking at women.

not sure your reason for posting... unless maybe its a secret cry for help.. smile

guessing she has you at gunpoint or hostage somehow and that is why you typed this note.

Just know that we hear your cry and have sent for help..
we have contacted the highwaymen to come rescue you from this madness.. (willie, kris, waylon, and the ghost of Johnny)

if they dont succeed, we will send the legend of Hondo Crouch next...

Stuff my dad said in the deer blind

"I can dive deeper and come up drier"
"did you do that?"

24/7, I eat right and exercise. banana

Fella's, I still have the killer instinct, thats not the part I've lost the taste for. I just don't really get a buzz off of it anymore. I've got my trophy's, meat, and scenerio thrills. I've had more than my share of ultimate hunts.

I do understand the Playboy mansion picture and would love to drink whiskey with you one of these days because I always respect someone who can paint a vivid understanding.

I was ten feet from Willie Saturday before last and that was a thrill.

You really ought to think about taking kids hunting. It may not be a thrill for you anymore, but you can certainly impart your knowledge on a youngster and I can guarantee you it will be a thrill for them. And that, in turn, should provide you plenty of entertainment.

Both of the previous posts are spot on. It sounds like you are a seasoned hunter so it would be a waste of your knowledge if you simply hung it up. I took a friend of mine hunting for his first time several years ago and he shot his first deer. It was just a doe but as we sat in the blind and I had the binoculars tryin to separate the biggest one out for him, my heart started racing like it did when I shot my first buck. I enjoyed that hunt as much as any other I've been on and I didn't shoot a thing. Pass on your wealth of outdoor knowledge.

I'll still be involved with hunting. I don't have any grandkids right now and most of the other little kids live out of state. Trust me, I still get a thrill out of stoking the kids. I learned years ago things look so much larger and exciting for children.

These days, folks find you creepy if you want to hang out with stranger's kids.

I understand the concept of picture taking and have done a little of that. I've even considered bow hunting.

I've taken a break here and there from hunting every once in a while, though it never seems to last very long. I've done the whole photography thing, and it's fun though my wife is the photographer in the family. Just take a break for a bit and see what happens.

I know how you feel, but like some of the guys were saying, take a kid hunting or just someone who hasnt had the pleasure of hunting. I spend all my extra money on deer leases and all the things that go with them, guns etc. I have several grandkids that love to hunt and I spend all my time and money trying to make sure that they have the opportunity to experience the outdoors in whatever way they want. Like you, I have lost the taste for killing animals, but still like to eat wild meat and I think I get more out of taking my grandkids hunting than I ever did hunting for myself.

I have thought about letting go of the hunting thing several times. The cost of it all plus the ever increasing continued problem of finding a "GOOD" lease or somewhere to hunt. I get almost as much enjoyment with a good day at the range. If it were not for my love of riding my ATV, I probably would let it go.

My son and I just started hunting two years ago. He's 13 and I'm 44. I had never hunted before. I enjoy my time in the blind and working on the lease with my son. The meals, fires, waking up a 5 AM. He'll be gone soon So I will enjoy it while I can.

To the OP I hope you get to enjoy it again with nephews, nieces or grandchildren.

Hunting Simplified: You can make it way more complicated than this if you want but 3 stages of hunting to me:
1. Kill the most or a limit everytime you go out
2. Kill the biggest Trophy
3. Sharing the experience

Sounds like you are past the 1st couple of stages. This is a great oppurtunity to get involved in introducing some new faces to hunting. It's already been mentioned here but there is nothing like the feeling of putting a young (or just a new) hunter onto a deer, hog, etc. My youngest son shot his first deer this past season. He, his 12 yr old brother, and myself were in a blind together and me and his brother both had buck fever so bad we couldn't hardly contain ourselves. Especially me even after 100's maybe 1000 or more animal harvests.

Don't give it up: just find a new way to enjoy it up
