I usually go 40" from the floor to the bottom of the window.

I would recommend sitting in the chair you plan to use in your stand with your rifle and see if that height is comfortable to you. You can easily tack the window frame. The worst thing you can do is have windows too high where you aren't really comfortable at rest. Also. Don't forget to plan for any flashing, carpet or padding you might end up using on the window ledge. Those seem thin but can make a difference in your personal shooting comfort.

Shorter than what you think. You have to account for angles, topography, and the fact you can add to heigh with a towel or pad but you can't take away.
I think mine are like 33" but dont remember exactly

Any info would be apprecited I am exactly 5'6" also, plus I've been building blinds for years. Here is the formula I use for customers, if they don't request a specific height: I start at 38" from the floor for someone 5'6", considering a standard groud blind. For taller folks, add 1" to the window for every 3" of body height.(5'9" = 39" to window, 6'0" = 40" to window, 6'3" = 41" to window....etc.) For shorter folks(mainly kids), subtract 1" for every 3" of height. (5'3" = 37" to window, 5'0" = 36" to window, 4'9" = 35" to window, etc) As for the stand height... For every 4' of height added to the stand, drop the window about 1/2" (8' legs = -1" window height, 12' legs = -1.5", etc.) So...based on your height and the stand height, I'd say 37" from the floor to the bottom of your windows. These are just starting points. Every customer I build for seems to have a personal preference. The chair you use makes a BIG difference also. Good luck, hope this helps! EW

Wow thats alot of thought you have put in. Good info Not so much a lot of thought, as it is a lot of experience. I pieced those numbers together after building lots of stands for a bunch of different sized folks.

I have done mine at 36" from the floor on 8 and 12 ft towers. It allows you to be able to look more near the stand when the curious deer get close. Also, on the height of the top I like to keep it at 44" so that you are not looking at the sky and glare when sitting in a normal position. I'm about 5'7".

Same here... so you have a little better downward angle. I'm 5'6" and I sat in my chair playing with the height for a bit and 36" seemed perfect at anything over 3-4ft off the ground.
...necessary to the security of a free state

Just in case you are off a bit, get an office chair with the adjustable height. Pull a lever to go up or down.
