Info needed on 45acp to carry at lease for encounters with pigs. Don't want it for concealed carry, just lease. Looking to spend under $700. If you know a couple of good choices please list them. Easy break down for cleaning, dependablity, etc. Going with the 45 over the 10mm because ammo is easier to find. Don't intend to hunt pigs with it, just to carry for defense from big sows with piglets.

1911 unless you have gorilla hands then maybe a glock would be alright for you.

Second choice would be a sig 220.

Well if you had asked your question this past weekend, Cabela's had very nice condition police trade in Glock 21's for $359 in box with 2 mags. But the sale is over. I definitely plan on carrying mine to the lease - unless I get another Uberti .45 Colt between now and deer season.

Glock 21!

Waaaaay cheaper than $700, very relieable, easy to break down, easy to clean, holds lots of ammo!

Actually, the M&P 45.

The G21 doesn't always fit everyone (i carry the G30, which oddly enough, does fit me where the 21 does not) and the M&P has interchangeable grips, so it fits more people.

M&P is a good one, so's the XDm .45.. 3 different interchangeable grip inserts. Got my hands on one today, those Springfields just seem to fit my hands perfect.

Fullsize Glock or XD. Can't go wrong with either.

M&P is Garbage (at least my .40 is. .. I carry the thing every day against my will and hate the thing... Even though with the thousands of rounds Ive had to put through it in order to shoot it accurately, many parts that should not have failed (on multiple officers weapons) have failed.. I'm partial to 1911's myself

Good advice, and I think any quality pistol similar to these (such as the M&P) would be a good choice. I do love 1911s, but a double action revolver or a semi-auto that operates like a DA revolver is the way to go for those surprise situations.

I think your intended use is much like every day concealed carry, and these are the pistols I would recommend to anyone for that purpose. I love the 1911 and it is truly the greatest pistol in the world BUT if you're going to carry one frequent and regular practice is mandatory because of the manual safety. I'd venture a guess that 97% of all CHLs do not practice enough to carry 1911s in a competent manner. I own and love 1911s myself and I'm a pretty fair pistolero, but I am humble enough to recognize that I need to carry a pistol that does not require a manual safety. I therefore carry XDs, Kahrs, and the like.

I think .45 ACP is a very good choice also. Interesting that you would consider the 10mm, I think it's a fantastic cartridge and may be an even more effective stopper than the .45 ACP. But if you can't find ammo, it's of little use. I still would love to have a Delta elite or something like it one of these days. The 10mm is awesome. Being a handloader, I'd not be the least bit concerned with ammo availability.

Glock 21SF although I'd probably wait for the Gen 4 version whenever that comes out.....

Revolvers are made for hunting...autos.....well...not so much, better for self defense, better choice in hunting ammo for revolvers.

He said he wants it for defensive purposes so round count will matter too much to go with a wheel gun IMO.

Any of the above mentioned .45s will do just fine.

Rock Island 1911 45acp is the best for the money. Can get one for 450 and it will do the same as the $600 pistols (not to knock them ) I have a RIA and It has performed every time.

Rock Island Armory 1911 Tactical. Has better sights than the GI model, not to mention ambi safeties and full length guide rod, if you like those things. Mine was under $500 and it has never had a malfunction with FMJ or Speer Gold Dot HPs, including break in with hollow point. Blasphemous I know!! I wanted to test it and it performed. It is my go to carry gun for everything. I just wish I could carry it or any 1911 on duty!
