So I am thinking about getting into taxidermy. I think I would love to learn it and have it as a second income, I have been looking into places to learn it, There is a place in Springtown call All Trophy's school of taxidermy I believe. Has anyone heard of this place and is it any good? Also any other recomendations?

Check out birdworks on one of the threads under this section. He is one of the best and has some sort of training opportunity available.

I looked it up and it sounds great, but it is about a 4 hour drive and I can't take 6 weeks away from my business or the wife and kids so is there a decent one around the fort worth, Weatherford or surrounding areas?

There are only 2 licensed schools in the state.....CTST was the first, the one in springtown is new to the license....sometimes you can find a taxi that would be willing to teach you for free work.....the license a school gets just allows them to have more than 1 student at a time......I would be willing to teach ya but you prob don't want to drive to the abilene area

I understand the drive and the amount of time are a problem for you but Jason Bynum is one of the best guys in the world and really is one of the best teachers of great taxidermy work that I ever met.

negative on the central texas school.... i went there when kelly ran it.. it was a great class but 6 weeks is not near enough to learn taxidermy. you will end up ruining alot of peoples stuff before you master this trade.... my suggestion is to do an inturnship.

all throphys is a great school to learn the basics and JR is a great teacher you will learn everything from a very hands on aproach since all throphys only takes a few students at a time but i second what n-rut says about only being six weeks not being enough time they teach the basics but there is much to learn on your own good luck

X3, Central Texas School of Taxidermy. It is a drive for some people, but it is worth it. Was 5 hours for me. Jason Bynum is an awesome instructor. Along with the people he has that help him. Very helpful. I recently graduated from the 2 week portion in January and am now on my own.

N-rut- I understand where you are coming from with 6 weeks is not enough and wont teach you everything. But there are so many diffrent classes that you can take that teach you habitats, shoulder mounts, and lifesizes. But again i agree with you that you need to go to a taxidermy shop and work with him to figure out every little problem that you can run in to. But Jason Bynum at Central Texas School of taxidermy does heck of a job giving you all the basic info you will need in mounting lifesize and shoulder.

N-rut. As I said I only took the 2 week course and he showed as much as he could do in that time frame. In my opinion.. we stayed busy. I do know when you get into the going further to the total 6 week class you learn a whole lot more. I don't know how Kelley ran the class before. And I am not trying to argue. Everyone has their opinions. I just want people to know that Jason Bynum does a heck of a good job in the time frame you have to teach it in. Yes, it would definately benefit anyone to learn one-on-one from in a taxidermist shop. I can tell you from experience... don't just use the one around the corner from your house... use the one that does the best job. There are a lot of different ways to do taxidermy and they are not always the right one. Jason does teach you ways to alter the forms and any problems that may arise while tanning. If taking the class I would ask as many questions as possible and do everything you can possibly do(hands on)to answer any questions you may have. Jason also holds a 1 week habitat class in May if interested that includes the rock bases of course. Jason is also there anytime you need him. He does not leave you hanging when the class is through. Anytime you have a question email or call him. Which I have done. Anyone interested in his class just needs to pick up the phone and call him or email him. He will answer any questions you have about the class, then make your decision where you would like to go.
