We have a lease in Sterling county off of 158 and the coons are making a mess. There raking all the protein out of the feeders and leaving it on the ground. Does anyone know anyone that traps in the area or would like to come down to give it a try? We have a cabin on the place if you needed to stay the weekend. Please let me know. Josh 432-967-1208

Traps? ? Sometimes they are worse than the hogs...

I agree, trap them yourself. Keeps random people out of your stuff & off your place.

If the feed is in one tall tepee shaped pile then it might also be porcupines as they love protein feed also. If it all over the ground then it is more than likely coons. Might try some of these if it is raccoons for trapping while you are there: http://www.fntpost.com/Categories/Trapping/Traps/Dog+Proof+Coon+Traps/

We can go down some weekend and wait for them with 22 and spotlight and thin them out! I never saw any when hunting down that way off 137 near Sprayberry!
Brayden (Lazy L's Southern Comfort) you will be missed! You were more than a pet you were my reason to rise and return for many days! You were my rock! 12/26/03-10/25/13

Those shoould work fine, make the bait harder to get too, dont pour corn in there, shove a sardine underneath the pedal or something..... I use those kinds of traps all the time, and catch coons regularly.

smear peanut butter on a vanilla wafer and stick it to the pedal.. it makes them have to work to get it off and the trap will throw

Fox Pro coon fight sound and shotgun. I've gotten 9 in the last 3 trips. Saturday night waiting on pigs at about 2:30 AM two coons come out, I turn on the fox pro and one headed straight in but wouldnt stop. My buddie's running the light and this coon crawled up the leg of the stand and was literally 4 feet from us and I couldnt get a shot so I turned off the call and waited. A minute later he finally started making his way off and I plugged him. Nothing responds to a call like a coon. This time of year the coon puppies sound is good but the coon fight will get very aggressive reactions. Its a good time too. I take my boy set him up with the 12 gauge and put the decoy next to the call in the daylight and just watch the show.

cayanne pepper and grease. The first time they try to climb up the legs on your feeder they will get all the grease on their hands, when they lick them they will learn their lesson.

What kind of traps do you guys recommend? We have tried the have a heart kind and somehow they get the feed without the door tripping. You have to wire the trap to a t-post so they cant turn over the trap, feed pen t-post works great.I had the same problem until I did this, now i've been very successful on coons,my biggest problem now are those cute eyes staring at me as I stick a .22 in their face,I turn 50 next month and I think I'm going soft-not soft soft but more aware of my own mortality.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

There are just too many. My oldest has been killing 2-5 every night. 4 last night. I got buzzards all over.lol Mike came out last week and killed 10 and a fox. There is no end to these things.
Tonight he will kill a couple more. I am amazed at the sheer numbers of these things. All we can do is keep on hunting them till we go a day or so without seeing any.

I catch them with my hounds. Tree from 3 to 7 on the average per morning hunting from 5:00 AM til 8:30 AM. No need for traps or poison and does not bother the deer or livestock. (Your dogs must be broke not to bother off game). The ranchers around Menard ask me to come hunting so I have about all the country I can say grace over. PM me and I will see if I can get you some help. Adios, Gary

Last week I put out a feeder for axis I have been seeing in a low fence place I have. Coons ate the wires off the motor. Put out a live trap and have caught 4 in 4 days.

Mine even learned how to climb up the PVC on the legs by hanging on from the bottom, the varmint cage?-just something for them to hold on to when they got to the top. I had the same problem, a year ago June I trapped or shot 22 coons at one feeder. They finally disappeared and I have not had a problem with them since.
Good Hunting, Gary
