I wouldn't hesitate picking one up at all. They make excellent stuff and I'm surprised I don't hear them talked about more.

D2 is one of my favorite steels, just be aware that it isn't completely stainless. You will probably need to wipe it down with some oil occasionally.

KOA makes an excellant knife...but beware they take their D2 steel to the max on hardness (65RC) which means they can be difficult to sharpen. If you never let it get real dull you'll love them.

I stand corrected looks like they are now heat treating to 60-61 RC

I got set of them(10 different knives). I clean many animals each year (I am an outfitter) and KOA are some of the best I have ever used. I also get to see/use many different knives that different hunters bring. Still think that KOA are some of the best that you can get.

I would pick D2 over 440C any day. The only advantage 440C has is it will be easier to sharpen in the field, but of course it won't hold that edge as long.

I would go with 154CM or 440C if they offer it. Not a significant difference in edge retention, it dosen't rust and is easily sharpened.

They are great knifes I have had few sets for few years now.. But me being hunting ranch skining allot of animals I prefer the little victonox knifes they are cheap hold damn good edge and sharpen up quick.. But not many people skin as many animals as we do a year.. SO if you only are gonna be skining a handfull animals a trip their great...

D2 is what I have. You have to take care of the blade, but it is better IMHO.

The are put together in Sherman, the blades are made in Austin. I got a tour of the shop the other day that makes them. Cool stuff to see. I tried to get just a blade but they said no way. I had to try.

Made and put together is the same where I'm from. But I haven't been on a tour of the shop either.

Best knives I own and I have a bunch. I have never had mine slip no matter how wet and sloppy my hands are. Seems to hold their egde good and easy to resharpen.
