Brandon's building me a 6.8 upper here in the next week or two.. I like the fact that I can switch over to my 5.56 upper and use the same lower..

I like the 6.8 for short range hunting. Good ballistics out to 300+ yds. There are several companies producing ammo for the 6.8 and if you reload the are over 30 bullets available with BC up into the high 400's. Light weight and compact and easily switch from 556 to 6.8 and vice versa by switching uppers and mags and lower is the same. I like mine and im sure there will be somemore 6.8 fans chime in. I have no experience with the AR-10 platform(308).

308 all day every day if you plan on doing anything with it other than shooting towels off peoples heads

6.8 is a solid mid-range hunting round, but 308 is cheaper for punching paper, and will kill ANYTHING in north america.

i had a 6.8 for a while but the only decent ammo (silver state) is too expensive to go play with at the range, and i can get .308 for 50cents each to play with

.308 if it's a bolt gun. 6.8 if it's a AR. Ammo is much cheaper for the .308 plus lots of data if you reload. .308 is proven and lasted this long for a reason

If you plan on hiking/walking alot while hunting I'd go with the 6.8 upper with a quick detach optic.

If you are going to be in a blind or not walking very much, then i'd go with the .308. My auto .308 is heavy and I don't have a bull barrel and it's only 16in.

This is true and why I sold my 308 AR. No it's not too heavy to carry to the stand, but I hate sitting and waiting and tend to move around. The 6.8's got a nice punch to it without the extra weight. Ammo's not the cheapest, but it's getting better and 308 isn't much cheaper unless you shoot the super cheap stuff like Wolf, Tul, and Silver bear. I won't shoot that stuff in anything other than AK/SKS type rifles.
