Can anyone recommend a good jeep shop that is not super expensive... My 91 is overheating and 2 different shops can’t figure out the issue... I have had the radiator, thermostat, temp sensor (twice), hoses, fan switch etc replaced and I’m tired of paying shops for parts and labor and not getting a solution. One shop told me it’s just the sensor is reading bad and the other shop says it’s a head gasket... I don’t see foamy green oil so I’m not so sure about the gasket but I want to go somewhere to get a good answer and not spend a ton to replace parts I don’t need.

If it does end up being a gasket I will prob rebuild the engine or get a used engine so any advice on a shop to rebuilt it or who can get good used engines as cheap as possable would be great... as little as its used I don’t want to put a jasper in it...

Any recommendations would be great… Since I’m 99% sure it’s over heating close to north dallas would be great if I have to have it towed…

How do you know it is overheating? Is it boiling over. When did it start? Had you done anything to it before it started this?

Get manual gauge and read it on the block or head. Is there steam coming out of the exhaust pipe? Have you pulled the plugs to see if there are signs of moisture damage?

Ethridge Auto in Colleyville put a rebuilt motor in my 2000 TJ for something like $1800. Been running well for the last 18000 miles or so...

Check Wires,
When I purchased my Jeep, the Selling Dealer had to fix the overheating issue by contractual agreement with me.

They replaced every temp sensor, replaced the ECU, Gauge Cluster, and where stumped, turned out to be the loom had rubbed through and a wire was making contact against one of the AC hard lines and shorting out.

One of my hubby's jeeps started overheating, turns out the hose from the radiator kept collapsing. He pulled the metal spring thing from an older hose and put it in the new one, problem solved. Hope your's is something simple too.

Have you changed the water pump. I also once got a new thermostat that was bad out of the box. Not much else to it in the cooling system than that besides maybe a sensor. Check the temp manually to make sure the gauge is correct.

If you have a warped head or failed gasket, you will have CO coming through the radiator. A sensor at the open radiator will tell you if you have a block or head failure somwhere. You should also see the coolant circulating through the radiator. It will heat up faster since the fluid is not under pressure but at least you will be able to see if it is circulating.
