Gunna buy a cheap entry level AR to increase my hog slaughtering, and Im going to go with one of these two from olympic arms, You can see the differences, about the same price, one has a bull barrel and one has the carry handle/open sights, i plan on scoping it any way so i think i will go the the k16 but i just wanted to see what yall think. thanks K16:And the "plinker plus" model:

Go with the flat top. I would not even consider an A2 upper.

You might want to pick another brand. Oly Arms are not known for great quality and there are sevell better options in their price range !

Nice thing about AR's is buy one and then add another upper in a different configuration.

Flat top for sure. When you add optics to the carry handle it becomes very awkward.

i agree. youll want to take off the handle when adding a scope so you might as well buy one without it. I have a Bushmaster and i love it. just throwing that out

I really need to get a flat top upper for my Bushy. If you like everything else about your upper I can swap it out for a flat top while you wait if you are interested !

Any brand besides Olympic Arms is my recommendation. Except Blackthorne/Hesse.
Oh, and nothing wrong with the A2 upper. Not as versatile as flat top but it's more fun than optics to me. Plus they use it on Top Shot!

I've qualified with the old "A2" upper out to 300 meters and thought nothing of it at 18 yo. At 47 my eyes aren't what I want them to be or what they need to be. I like a flat top.

I have owned two olympics and the only thing I really liked about them where their barrels. Thats one thing olympic does pretty well. Reliability was never an issue either. I went through quite a few thousand rounds through my K3B and never had any issues. The main problems I had with them was that I could never get either of them dead nuts. On both of them I had to dial full windage and jack with elevation like crazy in order to just get them on paper.
Any way I sold them and bought LaRues!

Ya there is no reason for heavy barrels (Bull Barrels) on AR's.

I'd pass on the Olympics. They are among the bottom barrel manufacturers. Much better guns can be had for about the same money.
I am not a fan of bull barreled AR variants. They are front heavy, cumbersome and awkward. I am one of the few here that likes an A2 upper. If your an iron sight guy like me they are great. If you only have one AR I'd go with the flattop
