Hey guys Im looking for some coaching here...My 13 year old Lab has lost her appepitite, she hasnt eaten in the last 3 days and it is getting harder and harder for her to get up... She has had hip problems and we have had her on meds for the last year or so.

For the last week we have caught her digging in the flower beds, she hasnt done this since she was a puppy. I have heard that they will do this right before they are about to pass, is there any truth to this?

I do not know about the digging but sounds like you need to get her to a vet. All I know is I dread the day my lab goes to another place......

She is at the vet as of 8am this morning, they are doing blood work and xrays, hope to know more later today. Please say a prayer for my hound!

In my experience, when they are getting ready to go, here is what we've seen dogs do:

Hide/stay away OR just the opposite - cling to the alpha;
Loss of control over bowels;
Loss of appetite;
Loss of energy or activity

Then again, we've had those dogs who played til their last day and gave absolutely no indication whatsover. Either way, I pray for your peace and comfort thru this. Losing a close buddy, especially after all those years, is never easy.

Thanks guys...We had to put her down today around noon. She had some bad internal bleeding and the vet said she was beyond surgery...Tough day for me, even tougher for my wife and kids.

Thanks guys...My wife often ask me, "what goes on it your chat room"...I think now she gets it, I let her read these posts...Its a bunch of guy who dont know each other, who are brought together by the the love a sport...But along the way you make some friends that have no faces and are genuinely good people!
