Ok, rookie means you have some type of training... I'm below rookie, I only have the "ro" portion of rookie. So of course I'm a google hunter (you know looks at all the video, read the web type of thing). I went out to BDA last week to scout. I saw one Turkey fly through the upper branches.

So I need some help. First, what type of trees do the Easterns like to roost in? Second, what type of calls should I make first to draw them in once I set my decoy? Lastly, any one have any recommendation for which compartments are most active with the Easterns. I appreciate the help.

Good luck....i was up there scouting 2 days prior to the opener and didn't see another soul. Put a couple birds to bed the evening before and hoped for the best. Opening morning was chaotic. Had 4 trucks parked at the check in area when I showed up at 5:45, guys walking thru my setup,etc....
I had a good experience there last season, but apparently the word is out. I doubt I go back.....

I agree good luck up there. Hard to say what call at what time. The best thing I can say is you need to scout alot and know the land. Do not get to mislead by videos. The difference is someone has scouted extensively for them if not by them and normally it is not public land.

Gentleman, thank you very much for the tips. I plan to go up again this weekend. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Well your probably already up there now, but to answer your question about roost tree the easterns in Texas usually roost in big old hardwood..usually at the head of a creek bed. Especially trees like oaks, sycamore, and even hickories and sweet gum. Good luck...
