They get $550 per gun per day to guide wild birds, $250 is less than half. But I agree that it is steep, but it is what it is, like I have always said when hunting texas you pay or you pay.

You'll have to post some pics of him once you get him back. My friends missed two bobcats last year about 200 yards from the lodge.

That is the dumbest arguement I have ever heard....... fuel went up, that sucks.. That means the average joe also has to pay that to come to your place.

how is that dumb? if I run a business and my overhead went from $100 to $200 then my price to the end user is going to go up. no reason for me to bear that extra expense.
back to the post..I think about $300 is my limit, and that would have to be a real good place.

I sure cant imagine paying that much either, but quail are a little differant then a dove or duck. it is considered a gentlmans sport and calls for a gentlmans price.

Well if you didn't like those prices try these on!! My outfitter charges $850.00 for ONE man to hunt quail for two nights (first night of arrival) and two days. Includes lodging and meals and guide. No one gets on the ranch without a contract and no unguided hunts. How dumb is that? Well we have the most bookings ever in the history of our hunting ranch! Again, how dumb is that?

There is always the APH We know how much management goes in on those places. And $49.00 is cheap right, well times that by the 200 thousand permits and then take that 1 millon acres state wide and times that by the average lease that TPWD does of $4.00 per acre. That is 5 acres per permit holder, and the cost was 4 million and revenue generated is 9.8 million, that leaves a net of around 5 million, and there is no wildlife management that is conducted by TPWD on these properties. Then someone wants to complain about $1500 to hunt a well managed property. I would tell you, " I do not need your business " and to go buy or lease your own ranch. We all know that the costs you indure would be far less than $1500 right, besides that when you get it all done with your time and your money call me and I will come hunt for free to bless you with my being.

LOL, Im not cutting anyone down..... Im just telling you I could not afford that. Man hunting is getting expensive here. If that is ALL you do (create land to hunt on) I could see that. My personal experiance is that where I have hunted it has been furm land that was blessed with animals. So hunting is not the main source of income. JMO. This may be another situation,,,,,I dont know

A lot of those days in TX are gone bro. That is very unfortunate. A lot of the places we hunt now a days have little to no ag. The land owner makes way to much on hunting alone to interfear with the hunting, I can tell you for one example that one of our ranches "leased" in S.TX cost over 80,000 per year. This one ranch is only 3500 acres. do the math, that is $22.86 per acre. This dose not include most of the management that is put in to the ranch each year. I wish you could walk out and find a nice place to hunt for little or nothing but the truth is you cant, not a place that produces day in and day out.... If it did someone would have a lease on it....

Yes sir, I agree! Very unfortuanate. I am very fortunate to have a place to hunt...on one of my former college professors land. Really a great guy. I still choke when I read prices sometimes however. I am also pretty fortunate to have met some folks on here that I have hunted with (not for a million bucks a year). That is why this forum is so great!!!!

Even over 5 or 6 years ago the average quail hunter spent $10,000 a year on the sport. That is quail hunting. It has always been that way. I don't think they polled guys like me and others who go once a year for free or a day place.

i sure would like to know what these people do for a living to pay 300-400 a day to hunt quail. i am new to texas so what i dont understand is if quail hunters pay so much how come we have to wait until deer season to end to start hunting on most ranches????

Im a poor ol government employee. Therefore i am a duck hunter.

Blanked, its just a matter of money. I would venture to say that over half of the customers that patronize our place for hunting purposes, especially quail, can't hit their butt withboth hands! So, why do they come? Number one, because they can and they want to get the heck outta dodge wherever that is!! Granted there are some that buy hunts that know what they are doing and make the best of their time and money. I try to personally meet everyone that hunts on our place for the simple fact its just good business. And this is how we make a living. Our outfitter is one of the best in the business and knows how to cultivate customers and wine and dine them! Yes, quail is expensive but they are also a fragile bird that if not conserved while hunting, they won't be as rewarding in the future. It cost money to manage and practice conservation. More than most people know!!! And to answer your question of having to wait. Quail hunts usually last for two to three days in most cases. Deer hunts can last up tp four or five days so the turn ratio is quicker on quail hunts thus yielding more money!! My2cents

My cost per year is about 20k. That includes lease cost, maintaining 10 dogs, a atv, fuel, truck. That figures to about $500.00 per day for the days I hunt. Friends pay $250 per day. Clients pay $650 per day. Everything is furnished except guns and shells.

Yes, isn't it strange that when you put the pencil to it, it scares the heck out of you knowing how much it costs to operate for one day at a time. But, you have to do it in order to come out in the end.
