I'm looking for something in the $100-$150 range.
This gun will be used from 20-100 yards... Would like a light weight optic, and do NOT want a fixed power scope. I'm thinking 2-7 or 3-9x...
Looking at the Simmons .44mag scopes, but would love other options
This gun will be used rarely so i don't want to put out a lot of cash on the optic

Look at the Nikon Coyote line. Might be a little more than you wanted to spend, but they're actually worth a crap.

forgot to mention that i wouldn't mind something in a 32-40 mm, but do NOT want anything bigger than 40... it would look weird on my lever gun

http://swfa.com/Vortex-Viper-Rifle-Scopes-C1410.aspxthose 2-7 should be great, a little more than your range but very good quality scopes for the $ Doug at CameraLand might have a better deal if they have any left

anyone look at the 2-7x32 Nikon Prostaff?
Don't need ultra high quality glass like i have on my deer rifle, as this is gonna be a pig sticker and i'd imagine that even bad glass will work out to 100 yards under pig lights.

Redfield 2-7x33. I put 1 on my GBL & I think it's a perfect match. Best bang for your buck in what your looking for.

Out to 100 yds you really don't need any magnification IMHO. I would look at a Primary Arms Micro Dot- I think you'd like it more for target acquisition and fast follow up shots.

I'm assuming you are talking .44 Mag in a Marlin lever - if so, if you are using the Hornady Leverevolution rounds then the Leverevolution scopes at Cabelas. Of course - they make em for the .444 Marlin as well.

Sir, there is only one choice for you. The Burris 4x timberline on low mounts. You don't need a 7x variable at 100 yards. Those Cabela's Lever-E scopes suck! I'm not trying to spare your feelings here only trying to spare the Marlin's feelings. I've talked with many a Marlin leveraction and they hate looking funny and being embarrassed around the huntin camp. If you choose to put a telescope on that small receiver then for God's sake finish it off with some awesome see-thru mounts and post some pics.

Glass on mine is comparable to a variable Simmons I have that I occasionally use on my 30-30 (higher power and I switch out for longer shots because it has a bigger objective than the Cabela's) and a fixed Nikon I used to have on a 45-70. My personal opinion may run contrary to previous post; but I like the Marlin leverevolution stuff - it is very flat and will reach out to ranges that I won't shoot at anymore because of failing eyesight; and I like the Cabela's scope because of the hold over horizontals and spec to the ammunition (although I have run corelok through it and it is suprisingly on with it as well). I prefer the little lever guns because they are great for stalkng and offhand shots. I would not put see-through rings on the gun though - puts the scope up too high to get comfortable with cheek-wise. Use weaver type mount so you can take off the scope to use the iron sights when needed. Good luck!!

Hold up now, I never commented on Leverevolution, just the scope. Now that you brought it up, I will say that the 44mag Lever-E does not shoot flat nor is it the fastest ammo available for the 44 mag. I will also say some fast 44 mag ammo does not like the twist rate in some Marlins because there have been two different twist rates that I know of. The shooter will have to figure out what his rifle likes.
In my defense, I haven't had a simmons scope since I saved up enough money returning soda bottles for deposit in 1973 to put on my 22 rifle.
If you want a scope in that price range thats variable then the Nikon Prostaff is the way to go. If you want fixed the Burris is good enough.
