I want to shoot something with my 25-06 at about 320 yds. Do I need a 6-24 x 50 scope ? Or will a 3-9 x 40 do it ?

2-7 X 40 is plenty. I have a deep hatred for high powered scopes and big objectives. Many a man has shot 6" groups at 1,000yds with fixed 10X scopes.

i personally like my 3.5-10 zeiss, but i'd rather have a 4-14 zeiss...
10x is plenty for anything i've ever done, but i'd rather have the extra available....
i can't remember every using the lower magnification, so i think even 6-24 would be good... keep it on 10 most of the time, and use the higher mag if you ever have to take those REALLY long shots

USO has a 3.2-17x44 that im in love with but the price tag is scary, 6.5-20x40 would be a good one too. You can do a lot with a 3-9 but for me low power and high together is the ticket!

i like 4x12, allows me to see the holes at the range at 100 yds and also zooms in enough for any shot i would take

I have a couple that are 2.5-15 or so one Bushnell 6500 and one Swaro, best of both worlds IMO. Last Saturday shooting at 200 yards anything above about 10X was difficult with the Mirrage.
A good clear scope is more important to me than the higher magnification. One of my favorite scope power range is 2-7 and with that group sizes sub MOA are not that difficult at 325 yards.

I have one 4X12 and the rest are 3X9 on my rifles. Even with my eyes I still only use 6 power for hunting in the panhandle and 4 power here at home.

lol... if you can't get sub-moa groups out to 400, you're probably using a hunting rifle... a good varmint rifle will hold MOA or better out to 500 if you do your part.

Sub MOA at 325 would be around 3" groups. Impressive but not impossible.

I dont know if I can put 3 shot in 3 inches at 325, but I know I can damn sure put the first one there.

No military training but have been shooting for over 40 years and still enjoy it a lot. Rifle with the 2-7 that I see no issue doing that with is a standard Remington 788 in 7mm-08 that currently wears a Kahles 2-7 scope, previously it had a Weaver V7 and with both scopes that isn't that big of a deal. Myself and a couple other people have shot 3 shot groups with that rifle under half inch at 100 yards, with factory ammo

I like a 3x9 or 3.5x10 in a good quality scope. Anymore magnification than that and the mirage begins to distort the FOV.

I want to shoot something with my 25-06 at about 320 yds. Do I need a 6-24 x 50 scope ? Or will a 3-9 x 40 do it ? Practice on paper before you give it a go on animals. Try hitting a grapefruit, or a cantaloupe if you want an extra big target, and see how far out you can make a first round hit. How will you compensate for elevation and windage correction? With a reticle with holdovers and holdoffs, or dialing correction? It's going to take one or the other, and that may answer your scope question for you.

Sub MOA at 325 would be around 3" groups. Impressive but not impossible. Very doable. Putting them where intended matters as much as the group size and is much harder.

Very true Jeffbird, you cannot count on the ballistic info printed on factory ammo boxes or calculators as being spoton either. I have seen those of but 6 inches or more at 300 yards. They get you close but shooting it on paper is the best way to know

just giving you a hard time. Im a horrible shot. No problem, I am no where near as good a shot as many are. Good equipment goes a long ways but doesn't make up for poor marksmanship or shooting form.

I use open sights out to 600 yards and still shoot sub, sub, sub moa, heck I shoot an inch at 600. Seriously! And all of this with the time tested & proven ++++++P++++++ Hornet. I wouldn't lie about something like this.

3x fixed scope...I 'm sub MOA at 400 one shot group, barrel gets hot after first shot and opens it up pretty big
