TxKiller isn't far off; Texas public lands have so many different rules it's a wonder anybody uses them! Seriously, tho, check the regs; the place I was at today, Big Lake Bottom WMA betwixt Fairfield and Palestine, is cool with rifle hunting hogs this month but goes to shotgun and rimfire only next month...followed by several months of no hunting at all! That'll sure get the pig population down, huh? Sorry to rant, Sarge, but I just find all these WMA regs exasperating and ridiculous. Here's a link to the TPWD WMA page: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/wma/Thanks for your service! Mike H.

Remember, of course, if you happen to be on one of the four WMAs within Davy Crockett (such as Alabama Creek...the next on my list), then you have to abide by that particular WMA's wacky rules. Outside the WMAs but within the Davy Crockett, you just have to follow the U.S. Forest Service laws of the land. Here's a link: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/recreation/hunting.shtmlMike H.

sbv: Not this month on the Caddo WMA! You can't hunt hog during turkey season (April 1-30)...fortunately, when May 1 rolls around, you can have at 'em, but only with shotgun and rimfire and only for that month. Here are the details: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hun...00_0112a_81.pdfMike H.

I am in the same boat. I just moved here from WV. I am a graduate student, so I don't really have any money to spend on leases.

Here are the details: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hun...00_0112a_81.pdfMike H. One is speaking of the Caddo National Grasslands WMA and the other is referring to Caddo Lake WMA - entirely two different WMA's and restrictions.

There are not 4 WMA's within the Davy Crockett National Forest, only the Alabama Creek WMA down by Applesprings. If you don't care to abide by the rules and regulations for the WMA's, you don't have to hunt them.

@ky: You're right; I misread the USFS page I included in my earlier reply. As for abiding by the rules, I definitely do so, but that doesn't mean I can't gripe a little about them! Like the OP said, it's a free country. Plus, I don't know any private landowners here, so I definitely do have to hunt public lands if I want to hunt at all. The point I was making was to check out the official rules and regs, not what anyone may say on this or any other board. For the OP and everybody else, I've found some of the WMA hunting map links don't work within the specific WMA pages. Fortunately, they can be found here: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/huntwild/hunt/public/lands/table_contents/Mike H.

You got to knock on a few doors to gain access to private property or be willing to help/work for them around their place to hunt feral hogs or other species.
Instead of finding ways to assist with a program or situation, more folks gripe and complain...it's no different than any other requirement, restriction, etc. and I not referring to hunting or fishing.

@ky: I'm actually fine with hunting on public land and my gripes on the seasonal restrictions are mainly me just venting. Besides, feedback, either in the form of a complaint or a suggestion, is indeed a legitimate way "to assist with a program or situation!" How will the biologists, wardens and other managers know there are issues unless folks like you and me who are in the field every week tell 'em? To keep this on topic, I've thought of another resource for the Sarge inspired by a recent question on this board: Corps of Engineers property. Here's a helpful link: http://www.swf.usace.army.mil/pubdata/ops/recnres/HUNTGUIDE10-11final.pdfMike H.

kyotee1, don't quote inappropriate material, it just keeps it going:

Forgive my bad humor. Must have over looked the rule. Or maybe I over looked them all. I will try and play nice
