Is it legal to use a .17 for Rio Grand turkey hunting here in Texas?....looking for it in the book but cant seem to find the legal means.

Yes, as long as it's a rifle and not an airgun or pellet gun.

According to the TPWD website you can, since the only restriction would be on the taking of white tail, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and antelope would be illegal to take with a rimfire.

Head shot works good as well as base of the neck, right between the wings as the bird is facing away from you.

Yep its legal and it wouldnt bother me one bit to shoot one with mine! A head/neck shot would do some serious damage but I wouldnt personally take a body shot though I dont think

I've taken quite a few turkey with a 17 hmr. I use the 20 grain hp bullets and have had no problems dropping them quickly with a head or body shot.

just make sure it is a Rio and not an Eastern - shotgun only for spring Eastern.

shotgun just the eastern turkey .you can use a 17 or 22lr on all game birds like pheasent ,quail and rio turkey
