Do you buy quality guns/optics or just whatever? Do you buy the latest and greatest gadget or stay with the tried and true stuff?
For me it is optics then gun that are tried and true... gadgets are way down on my list.
Big ones line-up, little ones bunch-up

I guess I spend the most money on guns and optics. I am not much into gadgets at all. My last bow purchase I really wanted top of the line equipment all the way around. But still don't buy a lot of extras or gadgets though.

you can't spend enough on good eyes. I had lasik performed, and it's amazing what little details you miss with poor eyesight.
Next on my list is a pair of Leica 12X50's, or Cannon IS Binocs.

I buy good quality stuff, not necesarily the most expensive. I shoot all rem 700's and a weatherby vanguard, not the most expensive but good quality. They are all topped with leupold VX II's, very similar good quality but not the most expensive. Gadgets piss me off.

For me its been the optics followed by the gun. Im always trying new gadgets, some work and some dont. As far as the optics go, I beleive you really pay for what you get.

I have a Winchester Mod 70 270 Carbine action/barrel that I will probably shoot for the rest of my life. Every year, I like to buy something new for hunting. This year I went a little crazy and bought 2 things. A Leupold VX-L 4.5 x 14x56LR scope and a Knoxx Industries CompStock. Last year it was a new laser rangefinder. A few years ago it was Steiner binos. A couple of years before that, it was a Jeep. If you live long enough, you end up with some pretty cool stuff. One of my favorites is my battery powered lantern with a remote control. As far as "want" vs. "need", if I want it, I need it.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

If I'm gonna buy something I tend to go with the higher end stuff... I have bought lower quality or less that what I really wanted in the past and then always kicked myself a few months later when the little bit more $$ I would have spent was not important. To me.. I don't ever want to wish I had just waited another month and got what I wanted. Like my signature says... speed cost.... sometimes it takes me a little longer to get moving, but most of the time I am happier that I waited and did it right.

This year nothing but ammo. But if I had to start over, optics & gun, then binoculars. Gadgets are normally cheap though.
Last year extra stuff I bought was a pop-up blind for $99 and a $99 layout blind for river & field duck hunting.

Quite possibly the next big thing in hunting. Scott Henderson is a personal friend of mine. On top of being a near scratch golfer, he is also an extremely avid bowhunter. His brother and I are extremely tight, and you will hear more about this product in the coming months.
Didn't know that the cat was out of the bag, but hopefully you guys will check it out.

I spend my money on Jack Daniel's. Always go with the high-end stuff. No rot-gut worse than the usual hangover whiskey for me. However, if LSU loses between now and the BCS Championship I may down grade as I will have to do ALOT of drinking to kill the pain.

Gas and corn are my two biggest expenses when it comes to hunting. I may have forgot the cost of my lease, but I try not to think about that one.

I am like TX Duckman, I buy my ammo, but a box will last for about 3 years so it is not to bad. Land is paid for, food plot is planted by the farmer that leases the place from us. Corn and electric bills all paid for by son and nephews, they also furnish transportation, property taxes and insurance is paid for with income from the farm lease.
Most of my guns, scopes, etc. are older than 35 years, and they have never failed me so I see no need to replace any of them. In fact I really see no real need for all of this top of the line equipment that a lot of people think they have to have.

Marvin, I'm kinda like you. I told Dave over at THR that I didn't even load my 270 last year and I had two deer given to me and the processing was paid for. I sold a couple of hunts and enjoyed watching those guys bring in their kills. I don't think about what I'm going to spend my money on because I've got most everything I need. I guess I'm into my dode age of hunting. I like to have a good drink and listen to the hunters at the lodge talk about their kills.

Chuck, I shoot a couple every year, one of the boys field dress it and then load it for me. I get to visit with them and most times a few relatives stop by and I get to visit with them. I figure I did without all of that high dollar stuff this long so I could afford the place and I did alright so there is no point in buying them if I don't need them. Besides I spend my money on Ruidoso, that is my money pit

I did the same. Wore glasses since I was 9. Lived 1/2 of my life not knowing what sight really was.
What a miracle!

We have a our place leased to a local farmer, his payments to us more than cover taxes and insurance. Also makes it nice that he keeps a close eye on the place, he lives a 1/2 mile down the road and can see if there is any activity on our place. Our cabin sits on a hill and he can see everything form his house. We also gave him and his grown sons access to hunting so he takes real good care of the place. It is almost like us living there.

Hey T, plan on spending your money on JD, cause our Tigers are going all the way!
As for $$, I focus on dependabliltiy. It doesn't need to be top of the line, but it needs to work when I get my chance in the field!

Hopedale and Dirtynix,
Life is good for the time being. I was at LSU when we had Hallman and Dinardo and we sucked. I was at the Florida game and it was absolutely off the charts. 92000 people with tickets and another 50000 showed up just for the party. I have been to alot of LSU and other college games and it was the loudest I have ever heard. I bet there was so much alligator being cooked they might end up back on the endangered species list, plus there was enough booze being drunk to float a battleship. They had a ton of recruits there which should seal the deal with most of them.
I grew up in New Roads and live near Covington now. Used to live in Big D where I found this site.
